LPWire: Eisner To Accept NAB Hall of Fame Award on Behalf of Wonderful World of Disney Series
Michael
Eisner to Accept NAB Hall of Fame Award on Behalf of
"The Wonderful
World of Disney,'' Television's Longest-Running Series
The National Association of
Broadcasters announced today that the Disney anthology television series will be
inducted into the NAB Hall of Fame at the NAB2003 Television All-Industry
Luncheon, April 7 in Las Vegas. Michael Eisner will accept the award on behalf
of The Walt Disney Company and make remarks.
The Disney anthology includes "Disneyland," "Walt Disney Presents," "Walt
Disney's Wonderful World of Color," "Disney's Wonderful World," "Walt Disney,"
"The Disney Sunday Movie," "The Magical World of Disney" and, as it is currently
known, "The Wonderful World of Disney." Since the inception of the show in 1954,
this award-winning series has provided a steady stream of family programming
that has entertained generations of children and adults with a mixture of
cartoons, live-action adventures, documentaries, nature stories, theatrical
films and made-for-TV movies.
Walt Disney was creator and host of the series from 1954 until his death in
1966. As chairman, Eisner assumed the role of host in 1986, making him the
longest-running host of any prime-time series in network history.
Eisner began his career at ABC, where he rose to senior vice president of
prime time production and development, taking the network from number three to
number one with such landmark shows as "Happy Days," "Barney Miller," "Rich Man,
Poor Man" and "Roots." In 1977, Eisner became president of Paramount Pictures.
Eisner assumed his current position as CEO and chairman of The Walt Disney
Company in 1984.
Past television inductees into the NAB Hall of Fame include Roone Arledge,
Ted Koppel, "M.A.S.H.," "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In," "All in The Family,"
Carol Burnett and Captain Kangaroo, among others.
NAB2003 takes place April 5-10 in Las Vegas (exhibits open April 7). It is
