Coca-Cola/Tiger Woods Foundation Junior Golf Clinic to Return to Walt Disney World Resort
Inner City Junior Golf Programs From Three Cities and Central Florida to Participate in Three-Day Clinic Experience in Orlando, Oct. 16-18
Inner-city junior golf programs representing four locations: Indio, Calif., Wilkinsburg, Pa., San Juan, Puerto Rico and Central Florida will participate in the 2003 Coca-Cola/Tiger Woods Foundation Junior Golf Clinic from Oct. 16-18 at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla. The three-day junior golf event marks the 29th clinic held by the Tiger Woods Foundation since its inception in 1996.
The 2003 Coca-Cola/Tiger Woods Foundation clinic will include 100 golfers and take place at Disney's Palm and Magnolia golf courses just days prior to the start of the PGA TOUR's FUNAI Classic at Walt Disney World Resort (Oct. 23-26).
"We are very excited to be back at Walt Disney World for our 29th Coca-Cola/Tiger Woods Foundation Junior Golf Clinic," Tiger Woods said. "We have a lot of fun every year, and I really enjoy being a part of junior golf and the development of these players."
"Through our new 'In the City' program, we've extended the reach of our junior golf clinics into new communities around the country," Foundation President Earl Woods said. "I'm glad to see these talented youngsters learning more about golf thanks to the support of Coca-Cola and Walt Disney World."
This is the third clinic the Tiger Woods Foundation has held at Walt Disney World, including last year's event that featured junior golfers from Buffalo, Ft. Worth, Newark, Orlando and Philadelphia. The Foundation also brought its first-ever junior clinic to Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in March 1997.
"Walt Disney World Resort again provides an ideal destination for the Tiger Woods Foundation Junior Golf Clinic," added Al Weiss, president of Walt Disney World Resort. "Young golfers participating in this year's event will receive instruction from the world's most exciting player at our championship courses, and they will be among the first guests at Walt Disney World to ride our newest and most thrilling theme park attraction, Mission: SPACE."
The youth golf programs from Indio, Calif., Wilkinsburg, Pa., and San Juan, P.R., were selected to participate in the clinic at Walt Disney World Resort through a formal bid process. The Foundation's Junior Golf Committee viewed all bids and ultimately selected the participating groups through detailed criteria that measured inner-city youth golf initiatives, community support and participation in local junior golf programs.
Each of the three participating cities will bring 15 junior golfers to the three-day clinic experience at Walt Disney World. Another group of 15 junior players will be selected by the Tiger Woods Foundation and Walt Disney World. The experience will include tickets to the Disney theme parks, a pitch, putt and drive skills tournament, a junior golf clinic, and an exhibition by Tiger Woods at Disney's Magnolia driving range on Saturday, Oct. 18. The trip culminates with the young golfers having the opportunity to experience Disney's latest, most thrilling attraction, Mission: SPACE at Epcot, followed by a special nighttime Dino-Rama! party at Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park.
The Tiger Woods Foundation Junior Golf Clinic Series has hosted events in cities across the country since 1997. The clinics are targeted to underserved youth, ages 7-17, and their families. This year's format combines local community clinics in Indio, Calif. (Mar. 20-22), Wilkinsburg, Pa. (July 24-26), and San Juan, P.R. (Aug. 28-30), with one three-day national event featuring Tiger Woods at Walt Disney World.
