ABC Studios Captures a Record 11 Emmys,
Including the Fifth Straight Win for"
�The Amazing Race� in the Reality-Competition Category
Showcasing the ABC Television Network as the home of the best acting on television, actors and actresses from the network�s series �Boston Legal,� �Grey�s Anatomy,� �Lost� and �Ugly Betty� swept the drama actor/actress categories at the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards presented Sunday night. ABC won a total of 10 Primetime Emmy Awards, including statues presented at the Creative Arts Emmys on September 8.
America Ferrera captured her first-ever Emmy Award for best actress in a comedy for her role as Betty in the Golden-Globe winning series �Ugly Betty.� Her win marks the first time a Latina has won an Emmy Award for best actress. Director Richard Shepherd won the series� second Emmy of the evening for best director in a comedy series for the pilot episode. �Ugly Betty�s� casting team was awarded an Emmy Award at the Creative Arts ceremony on September 8. Season Two of �Ugly Betty� will premiere on Thursday, September 27.
Oscar winner Sally Field added another Emmy Award for best actress in a drama for �Brothers & Sisters.� The Walker family will return for another season of episodes on Sunday, September 30. Season One is currently available on DVD.
Two-time Emmy winner James Spader captured his third Award for best actor in a drama series for �Boston Legal.�
Terry O�Quinn was a first-time winner for best supporting actor in a drama series for �Lost,� and Katherine Heigl was honored as the best supporting actress in a drama series for �Grey�s Anatomy. Season Four of �Grey�s Anatomy will premiere on Thursday, September 27.
In addition to the previously mentioned wins for �Grey�s Anatomy, �Lost� and �Ugly Betty,� ABC Studios won a total of 11 Emmy Awards. �The Amazing Race,� for which ABC Studios is a distributor, captured its fifth straight Emmy for reality-competition program. The series was also recognized two other times, for single-camera picture editing for reality programming and cinematography for reality programming.
Other ABC Studios wins included sound mixing for a series (half-hour) for �Scrubs� and picture editing for a miniseries or movie (single-camera) for �The Path to 9/11,� which were presented at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
ABC also had wins for �The 79th Annual Academy Awards� -- for variety, music or nonfiction programming and music direction.
ABCfamily.com captured an Award for creative achievement in interactive television for �The Fallen Alternate Reality Game.�
