The Sorcerers Apprentice: Apprentices Wanted!

Walt Disney Studios Utilizes Cutting-Edge Technology to Immerse the Public into “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”

High-Tech Outdoor Locations in Los Angeles and New York Offer an Extraordinary Opportunity to Experience the World of a Sorcerer

(July 2, 2010) In honor of the impending July 14 release of the innovative and epic comedy adventure “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures kicks off a first-of-its-kind interactive experience to find the ultimate apprentice. Throughout June and July, in Los Angeles and New York, the public will be enlisted to step into the shoes of a sorcerer and test their magical skills. Like the characters in the film, participants will get the chance to shoot plasma bolts from their hands and bring mops to life in homage to the Disney classic, “Fantasia.” Those daring enough to face this “Sorcerer’s Challenge” will also be able to share the experience with family and friends via Facebook.

These revolutionary displays break the boundaries of limited gesture technology by incorporating 3D cameras with infrared sensors to conjure an unprecedented immersive encounter for the would-be sorcerer trainees. With the wave of a hand, 3D motion-reactive technology is being delivered to the public via interactive outdoor advertising in a fun and entertaining way.

Inwindow Outdoor, a leader in deeply interactive digital displays, was called on to produce the “Sorcerer’s Challenge” units in the following bicoastal locales:

  • Hollywood, Calif. – The Hollywood & Highland Center at 6301 Hollywood Boulevard
  • New York City – Trump Building at 40 Wall Street
  • New York City – Macy’s at 34th Street and 7th Avenue

“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” opens in theatres everywhere on July 14, 2010.

ABOUT “THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE”

Walt Disney Studios, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Jon Turteltaub, the team behind the “National Treasure” franchise, present “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”— an innovative and epic comedy adventure about a sorcerer and his hapless apprentice who are swept into the center of an ancient conflict between good and evil.

Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” The screenplay is by Matt Lopez and Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard from a screen story by Larry Konner & Mark Rosenthal and Matt Lopez.
