Mission: Space Grand Opening
At Mission:Space itself, the place was overrun with local and national T.V. crews, doing live feeds with their anchors in front of the impressive arcs of the building. Unusually, Michael Eisner was pacing around in front of the attraction, talking both informally and formally to the crews, imagineers and the rest of us waiting for the sun to set. He seemed relaxed and to be enjoying himself, in stark contrast to other recent public performances of note. Michael was immensely enthusiastic about the new E-ticket, and spoke about how he always wanted a space simulation attraction for EPCOT, ever since he joined the Company in 1984. Other company executives were present, including COO Bob Iger, President of Parks & Resorts Jay Rasulo and several of the imagineers responsible, such as Bob Zalk & Susan Bryan.
