Innoventions in Epcot has always been a place for new fun displays and has really the closest thing to the World’s Fair idea Walt had for the Florida Project. However, in the past few years there have been more closures than openings. That all changes with the new exhibit COLORTOPIA Presented By Glidden!Filling the void left by the former Test The Limits exhibit, COLORTOPIA is a welcome addition to the area that can be enjoyed by the whole family. This experience can take anywhere from 10 to 25 minutes with some great hands-on fun.Our first stop is a three-minute introduction presentation narrated by Modern Family actor Ty Burrell takes a white room and shows how colors can have an effect on our every day lives called the Power of Color.
Once your eyes adjust from the color explosion you head out into the main hands on area to play with the Color Mix ‘n Match game or the Spinning Spectrums. This area has no time limit so kids and adults are encouraged to play as long as the like.Color Mix ‘n Match challenges you to mix the basic colors of the light spectrum to match different colors — it is not as easy as it sounds! They give you a hand full of colors to match and score you on how you’ve done.
Spinning Spectrums is a display of color patters that once you press the corresponding button will start to spin to show how your mind combines colors.
Finally we head into the Color Our World area of the exhibit. This area consists of two rooms. Even though the first room is more of a waiting area, it does have some fun lighting which the cast members explain and encourage you to play with. After a few minutes playing with the shadows, we are given out “paint brushes” and head into the painting room. Once in the room, guests are instructed to dip their paint brushes in the different color paint cans and have fun on the interactive mural. With some unique technology between the paint bucket and the brush, you can have some real fun. The mural reacts to whichever color your brush is and will actually trigger different animations depending on what color you have. One painting time is done, they display a code that as you exit you can email a copy of your masterpiece to yourself. The COLORTOPIA app was not active when I was there, but, speaking with some of the Cast Members, it sounds like it will be interactive in World Showcase, so it will be a must have for any WDW vacationer!COLORTOPIA is a great addition to Innoventions and really adds a classic E.P.C.O.T. Center feel to the area. The games and displays while not a huge addition bring the feel of the classic ImageWorks from Journey Into Imagination back to the park.
