A Look Back
Well, besides the obvious covered above, there are a few other interesting anniversaries coming up:

July 15th marked the 11th anniversary of the film Angels in the Outfield.  This movie in many ways outshines the original, quite a rare occurrence.  Unfortunately, the powers that be decided to ramrod the series through a couple of sequel films, all of them being rather bad.  Especially the Angels in the Pool Hall one.

July 16th marked the 8th anniversary of George of the Jungle starring Brendan Frasier.  The successful movie proved once again that watching a grown man swing around in a loincloth is highly entertaining.

In the World of Film
Charlie and the Chocolate factory shocked just about everyone last weekend with it's huge total.  Now the question of legs comes in, just how well will the movie do in it's sophomore frame?  Considering the first weekend was handicapped by the release of the new Harry Potter book which compromises at least some portion of the audience I think the film should have a fairly nice second weekend.

The quartet of new films premiering this weekend almost seem like weak winter releases.  The Island is a somewhat "out-there" sci-fi film, Bad News Bears' PG-13 rating isolates children and both Hustle and Flow and the Devil's Rejects have flown significantly under the radar.  Again, it points to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory winning the weekend.

#1  -  Charlie and the Chocolate Factory $30 million
#2  -  The Island $26 million
#3  -  The Wedding Crashers $22 million
#4  -  Bad News Bears $16 million
#5  -  Fantastic Four $10 million
#6  -  War of the Worlds $7.5 million
#7  -  Hustle and Flow $6.5 million
#8  -  The Devil's Rejects $5.5 million
#9  -  Batman Begins $4 million
#10 - Mr. and Mrs. Smith $3.5 million

If it were a Disney film . . . The Devil's Rejects would be a film about the riders who escape "hell" on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.
