App Review: “Club Penguin Island”

Are you looking for a treasure hunting party with penguins? If so, you’ll love Club Penguin Island.

Fans and even newcomers to Club Penguin will thoroughly enjoy this fun new mobile game, differing from their 11-year online presence that you could only access on a computer. This game brings together the familiarity from the old game, with new, re-imagined characters and graphics. In creating an account, you are able to design your own penguin and start tasks such as repairing a pirate ship, helping fix water slides and zip lines and even help find the lost city of Penglantis.

I’ll admit, I’m not terribly familiar with Club Penguin. I did have an account when it first came out, so this was basically brand new for me again. Upon downloading the game, you are asked to create a membership. This is obligatory, so if your little ones want to play, you will need to sign up for an account under a parent’s email address. At the time you create your membership, you are strongly encouraged to sign up for a monthly subscription to unlock all the content in the game for $4.99 a month. I decided to forgo this subscription to see how much I could play, and after playing for a few days, I can confidently say that I still don’t feel like I need the subscription, but it would definitely make gameplay more fun.

Another feature that I love is that it’s completely safe for kids! There is allowed interaction with other game players, but is completely safe, which is something that is a big must as a parent. There should still be caution exercised, but I haven’t run into anything questionable from other players and have even enjoyed interacting with others. I found myself going back to this game throughout the day to complete daily challenges, collect coins, and finish tasks to level up my little penguin.

I strongly recommend this to the continuing Club Penguin audience as well as people that aren’t as familiar that are looking for a fun game for their kids, or even themselves! Available for free on Google Play and the Apple App Store, but as mentioned above, you can sign up for a monthly membership for $4.99 a month, with a seven-day free trail you can take advantage of. Have fun on your adventure!
