James Gunn Releases His “Awesome Mix Vol. 0” Playlist

What do ELO, Cat Stevens, Silver, and Blue Swede have in common? Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 of course! But did you know there’s a whole new list of songs and artists that didn’t make it to the films’ soundtracks but still played a part in the movie’s production? Fans will be familiar with “Awesome Mix Vol. 1″ and Awesome Mix Vol. 2” as the bouncy, rhythmic soundtracks that give both movies a unique feel. Director James Gunn helped to select these fantastic collections for protagonist, Peter Quill/Star-Lord to listen to for a nostalgic escape and to provide background music for his less than legal activities. Taking a cue from the eccentric hero, Gunn curated his own infamous playlist, “Awesome Mix Vol. 0” to listen to while filming the colorful sci-fi movie. “Awesome Mix Vol. 0” fits the film tonally and invokes similar themes, but is more modern than the spirit of the story he was trying to tell.

This week Gunn tweeted that he had finally compiled the playlist on Spotify and fans were excited.

Just a heads up, this playlist contains some adult language that, had it been in the film, would have earned it an “R” rating.

That’s not the only news fans received from the director this week. It turns out that the Baby Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is not a same as the adult Groot, but rather he’s his son. Whhhhaaaatttt???

Some fans clearly understood this from their viewings of the movies and recognized the difference between the two Groots, others…  not so much.

Despite the surprise from some, Gunn points out he’s clarified this point in the past — just one more reason to pay attention to his social media accounts, I guess.

What did you think of “Awesome Mix Vol. 0”? Also, did you think Baby Groot was the same Groot in both movies or were you wise to the differences that set them apart? Let us know!
