There seems to be a new rule at Disney: if you have a new movie coming out, you’re going to have to surprise guests at a Disney Park for a viral video. This trend started swimmingly with Johnny Depp showing up as Captain Jack Sparrow in Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean (he also did an Alice Through the Looking Glass stunt before that, but that hardly counts) and continued with Mark Hamill boarding Star Tours, the cast of A Wrinkle in Time stopping by the Sunset Showcase Theatre, and more. The latest in this line of videos also includes Star Tours but is different in two main ways: 1) it takes place at Walt Disney World and 2) the surprising subject is a Wookie.
That’s right, Chewbacca himself recently surprised some Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests by taking them for a flight on Star Tours (after they passed a small test and figured out the correct password, of course). While Chewie was the star of the show, let’s not overlook the other aliens, ewoks, jedis, and fighter pilots onboard as well — all of which totally helped set the scene. While you may not have the chance to ride Star Tours with the one and only Chewbacca, you can still meet everyone’s favorite wookie at Disney’s Hollywood Studios inside Star Wars Launch Bay. Additionally, the “real” Chewbacca from Solo: A Star Wars Story, Joonas Suotamo, will be appearing at the next Star Wars Galactic Nights event on May 27th.
