Bye-bye Skyway. Hello DVDs. The weekly news roundup. And something about an Eggroll.

"Up above the world you fly. Like a teatray in the sky."

1956 - 1999
For many Disney fans this week was a little sad. On November 10th The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World closed its Skyway attraction. It was closed five years to the day after Disneyland closed its Skyway. Add to that the removal of Tokyo Disneyland's Skyway last year, and there are no longer any Skyway attractions operating in a Disney theme park. The Orlando Sentinel had a story on the Magic Kingdom Skyway closure,  and we published an article originally written after Disneyland's Skyway closure five years ago. The original Skyway at Disneyland opened on June 23, 1956. Forty-three years later we say a final goodbye.

More News of the week

  • This week's Disneyland Update is mostly about DCA construction. Lots of pictures worth taking a look at.
  • On November 9th the Disney classic animated features Mulan, Hercules, and 101 Dalmatians were released on DVD. They joined Pinocchio, which was released on October 26th. You can click on a title above to purchase it from Amazon.com or click here to purchase the Disney DVD collection of nine titles.
  • The Orlando Sentinel had an article discussing - with Al Weiss, President of Walt Disney World - the current lull in construction, the effects of Universal's Islands of Adventure and other Orlando competition
  • On Wednesday, November 10th, Disney handed out their 1999 Disney Legend awards.
  • For you history buffs, the November 10th Los Angeles Times had an article on Disneyland's 1955 opening day, called Black Sunday.
  • Disney.com has added a video of a computer simulated ride-through of Disney's California Adventure's California Screamin' rollercoaster to their website. The video is available in QuickTime and RealVideo formats. If possible, view the QuickTime, it's much smoother.
  • Our Disneyland Christmas Guide continues to grow. It currently has over 150 pictures of the Holidays at the Merriest Place on Earth.

Funny!
Surfing the web this week we stumbled upon a Mulan page with a great parody of A Girl Worth Fighting For. This version, Eggroll Worth Fighting For can be found here (you'll have to scroll down a bit).

The Rest
For the first time we have a guest for LaughingPlace.com's trivia contest. Michael Broggie, son of Disney Legend Roger Broggie, has 15 tough Disney Railroad questions for you. But to make up for the difficulty he's giving us a copy of his book Walt Disney's Railroad Story: The Small-Scale Fascination That Led to a Full-Scale Kingdom to give away as a prize, so hurry! Also, this week's Online Poll asks what movie you're most looking forward to, Toy Story 2, Fantasia 2000 or Dinosaur. Please let your opinion be counted.
