Doobie's Disney Favorites - Part Two

My Disney Favorites - Part 2

Everyone reading this site has Disney favorites, and that certainly includes myself. And I thought it'd be fun to put some of them into an article for this week's Editor's Report. I've broken it down into several categories. Within the categories, they are in completely random order. I also list an underrated choice in each category - not my favorite, but certainly worthy of much more praise, I think, than it receives.

If you missed it, Part One is still available.

Characters
I've got classic characters and film characters mixed together here since I don't have a whole lot of favorites. I like many of them, there just aren't too many I love.

  • Snow White: Two words: The Voice
  • The Princesses: Snow White gets an entry of her own, but the general "princesses" deserves one, too. When it comes down to it, this is what it's all about - fairy tales and happily ever after.
  • Goofy: It's almost cliche to include Goofy among one's favorite characters. But it's that way for a reason. What a role model for clumsy, absent-minded guys like myself.
  • Stitch: It's been almost a year and I still love the little guy. I hope he endures. Cute and cuddly but also mischievous. I think his child-like quality is what appeals the most. "I'm Lost..."
  • Mickey and Minnie: After 75 years they're still so cute! And great ambassadors to the world.
  • Underrated: Nana 2: Easily the best named character ever.

Resort Hotels
Ahhhh the hotels. My favorite part of Disney. Not the rides. Not the movies. Not the characters. The hotels! I've been looking forward to this section.

  • Grand Floridian: Long before I made it to Walt Disney World, it was my dream to just visit this place - just step into the lobby. When I finally made it, it was everything I had hoped for and more. Just a beautiful place. Years later I finally got to stay there as well and it was a dream come true.
  • Grand Californian: Nothing ever came close to touching the Grand Floridian until this place opened. It's a toss up as to which is my favorite, but having the Grand so close now is wonderful. My two favorite Disney restaurants are there plus a great, underrated fast food place in Whitewater Snacks, so I find myself there often.
  • Boardwalk: Location, Location, Location. A walk to Epcot. A boat ride to Disney-MGM Studios. Though I always rent a car at Walt Disney World, I still appreciate convenience like this. There's nothing like taking a boat from your hotel to a theme park. And being right on the Boardwalk with its restaurants and entertainment isn't bad either.
  • Wilderness Lodge: The Wilderness Lodge is very nice, but just isn't quite my thing, so it wouldn't make it on my list based on what's inside. But what puts it here is what's outside - the view you get looking out towards the pool, the geyser and over to Bay Lake. One of those many places that make you say "Am I really at Disney World?"
  • Underrated: All-Star Music: Lest you think I'm a snob with all these premium resorts, I have spent my share of time at moderates and even the All-Stars. The All-Star Music is my pick here for one memorable incident. On my first Walt Disney World trip I spent my last two nights here. One the first night I got sick (after eating at their food court, but I won't hold that against them). Finally, at about 2:00 AM, I ... you know ... lost it. Kind of all over the bathroom. But I called housekeeping - at 2:00AM - explained the situation and they came right over and cleaned everything up for me. For that I will always remember and applaud the All-Star Music Resort.
