You know, it's really hard to write when you're sick. I spent hours thinking about what I was going to write about this week, and couldn't think of anything. Any awesome news? Not really besides a weird rumor I heard that Mission:Space is going into Disneyland instead of Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. It would be funny if it wasn't so impossible. So there's got to be some sort of historical significant date coming up right? Well, there's:

The 39th anniversary of the Legend of Lobo (Woo hoo! Let's all celebrate that one!) The 4th anniversary of the TV remake of Annie (Which I have to admit I still haven't seen) The 10th anniversary of the Fountainview Espresso restaurant at EPCOT (speaking of which, that sounds great right now) The 2nd anniversary of Luminaria and The 30th anniversary of Robin Hood

So as you see there's not. . .WHAT? The 30th anniversary of Robin Hood? That's cool! Maybe I could write some sort of historical look at the roots of Robin Hood. Let's see now, well it got nominated for an Academy Award for "Love." That's a pretty song, it doesn't get nearly enough airplay among Disney. I mean wouldn't that be a great background for a gentle fireworks segment? I think so. Robin Hood also has that great sequence where all they did was trace over pre-existing animation. I always thought that was funny seeing Maid Marian change from Snow White to Marie and so on. Lady Kluk becoming King Louie was wild too. Oh yeah, speaking of King Louie, apparently Louis Prima was so mad that he wasn't included in Robin Hood he demanded to be on the album. So "Let's Hear it for Robin Hood" includes songs about King Louie being friends with Robin Hood. Absurd I know, and I can't seem to find it anywhere.

That drives me nuts you know, when I can't find records. Which reminds me. Those new CD consoles on Main Street are really awesome. You can just go up and pick from different CDs, many that are out of print or were never available. Nice to have the Adventureland Suite from Camarata on CD finally. Disney Legend, you know. Ok, back to Robin Hood, I always loved the Crocodile. Who did that voice again? (looking up on the internet) Johnny 'Candy' Candido. Oh that's sad he died. NO WAY! He did the voice for Fidget in Great Mouse Detective??? Wow, the things you learn writing B.O.R.E.D columns. He also was the Indian chief in Peter Pan. That makes so much sense but I never made the connection until just now. Isn't that funny how that happens where you watch a movie and then like halfway through it you think to yourself and out pops an image from another movie. Oh wow, the actress who played Mother Rabbit is the same as Kanga. This is fun, I can see why Kirby likes doing this sort of thing. Let's see now Robin Hood had a budget of $15 million. Seems quite decent for it's day. Robin Hood also has a hidden mickey. It's in the lilypads of the "Love" sequence. Did I mention how that would make a great fireworks score? Apparently the animators had trouble keeping Prince John's rings consistent from shot to shot. Maybe that's why there were no more villains with rings? Wait, are there? Frollo has one I think.... (checking a picture) yes he certainly does, so there goes that theory.

Ok now that I have some facts down, I need some interesting story related to my childhood and Robin Hood. Oh I've got one! I used to like speeding up the 45 rpm record I had and making it chipmunk. I kind of did that to all my records though. Well, maybe not the Chipmunks, I mean that would be kind of pointless. I did love the Story and Song record, I played it a lot. Ok, personal story taken care of now I need a point to all of this.

Robin Hood may not be most fan's favorite animated film, but I find it completely entertaining. So there! HA! (I might need to tone down my point just a bit.)

Ok Doobie just do what you normally do. You know, completely rewrite from top to bottom and make me sound real good. I want tears this time, you hear me, tears! There's a lot of mileage you can get out of that chipmunk story. I'm off to bed. 'Night!

This Weekend
Brother Bear opened last weekend with a solid $19 million in just two days. Competition will begin to creep up though as Elf opens this weekend, Loony Tunes:Back in Action weekend after, Cat in the Hat the weekend after that and finally Disney's own Haunted Mansion opening the last weekend of November. Brother Bear has seen solid mid-week grosses so far and with an extra day a small decline is almost a guarantee. I predict Brother Bear will make $16.3 million.

Matrix Revolutions, the last chapter of the trilogy, opened with an impressive $24 million on Wednesday. Impressive as that is, it still is way below Matrix Reloaded's $37.5 million dollar Thursday. That movie went on to make $91 million dollars over the weekend. With the film's audience already spending big on Wednesday and Thursday and with seemingly diminished appeal, I expect Matrix Revolutions to pull in about $73 million.

Elf is a rather bizarre movie dealing with a man being raised as an elf. The movie should bring in some family audiences looking for a live-action film. With no competition for that market besides the fading Good Boy! Elf should be able to cash in about $28.3 million this weekend.

Scary Movie 3 has shown no legs so far and now faces competition for the teenager market from Matrix Revolutions. Watch for it to slide 51% to $9.8 million.

Radio has been holding up well so far and still doesn't have any competitors. It should only slip about 30% to $6.7 million.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre has demonstrated great legs for a horror film. Part of that is because last weekend was Halloween so the movie got and extra surge of business. Now though the film faces the challenge of Matrix Revolutions and should begin to act like a normal horror film. Texas Chainsaw Massacre should fall about 52% and make $5.2 milllion for the weekend.

Mystic River has had a great run and while it opened very small ($10.4 million) it has a chance at $50 million This weekend it should drift down about 21% to make $4.9 million

Runway Jury should slide about 29% to add to it's total $4.6 million

School of Rock and Kill Bill will both fall about 31% and make $3.1 million.
