It's no Mickey Mouse park...
I've had words to the effect of the above statement said to me several time by people closely involved in creating DisneySea.

It's my observation, as well...  With the exception of Mermaid Lagoon, Mickey and his friends don't really seem to fit into the ground-breakingly realistic recreated ("themed" really isn't the right word) areas of DisneySea.  But not only is it a Disney park, it's Japan - The characters must be there for the multitude of fans who expect to see them... even though shoe-horning them in won't be pretty in many cases.

Ready for take off

At one point while I was watching there were nine of them in the air at once... dipping, weaving, narrowly missing each other.  Even though it's still an early stage of flight training, it was impressive.  The pilots were out in Tokyo Disneyland's massive main parking lot practicing for their role in the Porto Paridiso Water Carnival (parade).

Personally,I think the use of kites is perfect.  If there's one thing you can count on at the Tokyo Disney Resort, it's wind...  might as well take advantage of it.

Seacups
I'm getting old...  I didn't even think of this!

Inside massive Mermaid Lagoon there's what is essentially an undersea themed version of the Alice's Tea Party spinning tea cup ride.  It was originally called "Seacups", but the decision has been made to change the name...  Think about it and you'll "C" why. :)
