In this ‘Toon Talk’ feature, I will briefly highlight a recommended film or DVD, outside of the Disney universe, of similar interest to the main subject.

Certainly Celebratory Cinema

Always wonder where you could see the obscure short films that are nominated annually for the Oscars? Well, here is your chance with the Magnolia Home Entertainment release, A Collection of 2005 Academy Award Nominated Short Films. All five of the live action nominees (including the winner, the blackly comedic Six Shooter) and three animated short nominees are featured, highlighted by frequent Disney DVD contributor John Canemaker’s winning entry, The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation.

Be sure to check out the bonus features as well, which include the Annie Award-winning The Fan and the Flower and the Cannes Film Festival winner Imago; both shorts are bittersweet tales of love and loss and, quite frankly, are better then most of what usually draws the gold guy’s attention.

Coming Soon:

  • Toon in for the annual year-end round up of the Toon Talk Top 10 - 2006.
  • What if the shoe didn’t fit? Find out in the newest chapter of the Cinderella story, Cinderella III: A Twist in Time (February 6).
  • Two kids dream up an imaginary wonderland in Bridge to Terabithia, a new family fantasy based on the award-winning novel (February 16).
