“Black Panther 2,” Casting Addition for “The Eternals” Announced at D23 Expo

Today, D23 Expo 2019 invited guests to go behind the scenes with Walt Disney Studios and get a peek at all of the upcoming projects from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars. Among the big announcements was a highly-anticipated sequel to Marvel’s Black Panther and an addition to the cast of The Eternals.

  • Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was joined on stage by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler to announce Black Panther 2, which will hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
  • Black Panther was a massive hit for Marvel Studios when it roared into theaters in February, 2018.
  • In fact, the film earned more than $1.3 billion and is the only Marvel film to date to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.
  • In addition to the Black Panther news, we learned some exciting information on Marvel’s upcoming movie The Eternals.
  • Game of Thrones star Kit Harington, who was announced to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe yesterday, will be playing Dane Whitman aka the Black Knight in The Eternals.
  • This casting reunites Harington with Richard Madden, another former star of Game of Thrones.
  • Whitman is a medieval knight with magical abilities and at one point in his comic history he had a relationship with Sersi of the Eternals.
  • The role won’t be all that new to Harington, who portrayed the fan-favorite character Jon Snow in the hit HBO series.
  • The rest of the cast of the upcoming film took the stage in front of some art of their characters.
  • Marvel’s The Eternals will hit theaters on November 6, 2020.
