Danai Gurira Reportedly Set to Reprise Role of Okoye for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Wakanda Disney+ Series

It looks like Marvel fans will be seeing a familiar face in the upcoming Black Panther projects. Danai Gurira will reportedly be reprising her role as Okoye in the upcoming sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as well as the Wakanda-focused Disney+ series, according to Deadline.

  • Gurira will bring Okoye, the general of the Dora Milaje, back to the big screen as well as the small screen.
  • She has portrayed the character in Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame already and now she will bring her back for the Black Panther sequel, which we learned recently will be titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
  • From Marvel.com:
    • “Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will continue to explore the incomparable world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film. Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, who was behind Black Panther, the film will be released on July 8, 2022.”
  • In February, we learned director Ryan Coogler would also return to create a Wakanda-based series for Disney+.
  • Very little information is known about the series, but Gurira’s Okoye could be in for a major role.
  • Okoye will not be the first Dora Milaje to return to the MCU. Ayo, played by Florence Kasumba, recently appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Solder on Disney+.
