Disney is reportedly reviving a cult classic by developing a new movie titled The Return of the Rocketeer for Disney+, according to Deadline.
- David and Jessica Oyelowo will be producing The Return of the Rocketeer under their Yoruba Saxon banner.
- The film is written by Ed Ricourt and could possibly also see David Oyelowo in the starring role.
- The Rocketeer was released in 1991 and became a cult classic.
- The original film was directed by Joe Johnston and adapted from the Dave Stevens graphic novel of the same name.
- The Rocketeer follows a young pilot who stumbles onto a prototype jetpack that allows him to become a high-flying masked hero.
- The Return of the Rocketeer will reportedly follow a retired Tuskegee airman who takes up the mantle of the Rocketeer.
- Brigham Taylor will also be on to produce the film with Mortal Media executive producing.
- The film will come as part of Yoruba Saxon’s first-look deal with Disney and is being developed by Disney’s live-action team.
- Some of Ricourt;s credits include the hit Lionsgate film Now You See Me and Marvel’s Jessica Jones.
