December 2018 Disney Highlights

December 1

The Christmas themed DuckTales features a nod to “Mickey’s Christmas Carol.” Scrooge avoids the pressures of the holidays by traveling back in time with a trio of fun-loving ghosts to crash history’s greatest Christmas parties instead. Meanwhile, time-lost Dewey teams up with young Donald Duck to find his mom on Christmas.

December 2

Freeform debuts Life Size 2, Grace Manning (Francia Raisa) is the 20-something CEO of Marathon Toys, a huge toy company started by her mother that is most famous for manufacturing the iconic Eve doll. Grace is also in the middle of her quarter-life crisis, realizing she is in over her head as CEO. To make matters worse, her wild-child ways are causing the company’s stock to plummet. With the help of her young next-door neighbor, Grace’s old Eve doll (Tyra Banks) magically awakens to help get Grace back on track and give her the confidence to be the woman and leader Eve knows Grace can be.

December 3

For the first time ever as a 90-minute holiday special, Freeform’s “Pop Up Santa Holiday Special” has teamed up with sponsors to celebrate the spirit of the season through heartwarming moments including a home giveaway, a surprise baby shower at a military base, a family reunion of epic proportions, a celebration for two very special children at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and more. Hosted by Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Allison Holker, the special follows celebrity guests including ballerina Misty Copeland, former NFL athlete DeMarco Murray, “The Fosters’” Sherri Saum, Tommy Martinez from new Freeform drama “Good Trouble,” a special Marvel guest and, of course, Freeform Santa as they team up with Freeform to spread holiday cheer.

December 4

The first Disney After Hours event is held at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Ticket holders can get some extra time at the park with reduced waits.

December 5

In Marvel’s Killmonger #1 we get a look at the antagonist’s origin story.  We see him as a boy who was stolen from his home and taught only the world’s cruelties. A boy who knew the Black Panther only as a fairy tale, a whisper from strangers.

December 6

ESPN will be airing the Home Depot College Football Awards which will include awarding the Disney Spirit Award

On a holiday-themed Coop and Cami Ask the World, the kids work together to try and make Jenna’s wish of a classic Wrather Christmas come true, but a major snowstorm and a disgruntled moose disrupt their Holiday plans.

December 8

Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings: Holiday Magic is back on Freeform with an all-new installment once again hosted by Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Allison Holker. This year’s stunning and romantic weddings at Walt Disney World will feature a spectacular Mary Poppins Returns theme and a special performance by country music superstar Martina McBride

On a new Star Wars: Resistance, when Poe and Kaz find an old First Order mining facility, BB-8 discovers the facility isn’t so abandoned.

December 10

Dave and Odette Annable star in Freeform’s No Sleep ‘Til Christmas, a romantic-comedy about two insomniac strangers plagued by exhaustion. Lizzie (Odette Annable) is a high-end event planner preparing for her own life’s biggest event – her wedding. She lies awake nightly while her devoted fiancé Josh (Charles Michael Davis) rests peacefully, unaware of how to solve her issue. When a sleep-deprived incident causes her to run into Billy (Dave Annable), a low-key bartender who is just as sleepless and frustrated as she is, they discover that they can only fall asleep while next to each other. What seems like an odd coincidence, and frankly a disruption to their lives, might be more meaningful than they’d like to admit.

December 11

The latest ESPN 30 for 30 is 42 to 1. The film chronicles one of the most famous upsets in sports history: Buster Douglas’ shocking knockout of the then-undefeated Mike Tyson. Tyson was the most feared fighter of modern times. Douglas, meanwhile, was dismissed as a 42 to 1 underdog. No one thought he had the heart required of a champion. But at the Tokyo Dome on February 11, 1990, Douglas came to fight. Defying opinion, he proved to everyone that there was greatness in him. This is a film about how Douglas pulled off a victory that changed the course of sports history, channeling the absolute best version of himself, if only for one fight, when it mattered most and no one thought it was possible.

The Walt Disney Family Museum is presenting Nine Old Men Reflections: Brad Bird. Brad Bird knew he wanted to be an animator when he first toured The Walt Disney Studios at just eleven years old. In his teens, he developed an animated version of “The Tortoise and the Hare” and sent it to Disney, where it caught the attention of several of Walt Disney’s Nine Old Men. He was offered the rare opportunity to be educated in the art of animation by a key few of the Nine Old Men—an opportunity which would change the course of his life and help rocket his career into animation superstardom. Hear from Bird as he relives stories of working with the Nine Old Men as a young protégé, how their tutelage influenced his successful career in animation, writing, and directing, and their lessons he still heeds to this day.
