Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Coming to Disneyland, Delayed for Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Nearly ever since Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway was announced as the replacement to the Great Movie Ride, there were rumors that the attraction might also make its way to the West Coast. Today, those notions were confirmed.

  • After months and months of speculation, today it was (finally!) announced that Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway would be chugging its way to Disneyland.
  • As expected, the attraction will be built in Mickey's Toontown, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.
  • Disneyland president Josh D’Amaro got a sneak peek at the plans earlier today and was accompanied by Mickey and Minnie.

  • Appropriately enough, this news comes as both famous mice are currently still celebrating their 90th birthdays during the Get Your Ears On event at the Disneyland Resort.
  • The Disney's Hollywood Studios version is now set to open in Spring 2020 (pushed back from Fall 2019) while the Disneyland counterpart is slated for 2022.

About Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway:

  • When the upcoming Hollywood Studios attraction was announced at the 2017 D23 Expo, it was revealed that Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway will utilize "two and a half D” technology that doesn't require glasses.
  • This immersive ride will take guests into the cartoon world where they become part of the adventure.
  • The attraction takes place at a movie theater that’s premiering a new cartoon short starring Mickey and Minnie.
  • The film will feature Mickey and Minnie preparing for a picnic. As they set out for their afternoon, they’ll drive alongside a train that’s being engineered by none other than Goofy.
  • Thanks to some movie magic, guests watching the film will slip into the story and join Goofy on his train for a wacky, wild ride.
  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will feature a new catchy theme song created especially for the attraction.
  • Additionally, Chris Willis will score the attraction, employing a 65-piece orchestra for the task
  • The teams helping create the attraction are currently working with partners at Disney Television Animation to keep the characters and storyline authentic – and allow guests to join Mickey and his friends like never before.
