Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month With New Food Offerings, Activities and More at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World Resort will be celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month throughout the month of May with entertainment, food and beverage, and experiences throughout the resort.

What’s Happening:

  • A few days ago, Disney said that more details about Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at the Walt Disney World Resort would be coming, and today, we got the details thanks to Disney Parks Blog.
  • The celebration — “A World of Voices” will take place at all four theme parks, Disney Springs, and the resort hotels with some activities lasting beyond the month of May.

Magic Kingdom Park

At Magic Kingdom Park, Moana and Mulan have joined the character cavalcades and can also be spotted at the Main Street Railroad Station.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Mira, the title character of the Disney Junior show Mira, Royal Detective, has joined the Disney Junior Motorcade. You’ll be able to see Mira through the end of June.

  • About the Show: “Set in the magical Indian-inspired land of Jalpur, the series introduces a brave and resourceful girl named Mira, a commoner who is appointed to the role of royal detective by the queen.”

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is celebrating “A World of Voices” with two experiences.

  • In mid-May, you’ll be able to see a Moana-themed sand sculpture on Disneycover Island.
  • At The Animation Experience at Conservation Station, Guests will be able to learn how to draw Tuk Tuk from Raya and the Last Dragon and Pua from Moana.

EPCOT

In addition to Mulan joining the Princess Processional around World Showcase, there will be food offerings you can find in the China pavilion and learn about Chinese Calligraphy at the House of Good Fortune.

  • Lotus Blossom Café at the China pavilion will be serving Char Siu with Rice (叉燒飯), Cantonese-style barbecue pork, which was popularized in Hong Kong and in ethnic Chinese communities around the world.

  • Lotus Blossom Café will also be serving Hong Dou Bing(雪糕紅豆冰), Red Bean Ice Float, which is a dessert-drink popularized in Hong Kong made with sweetened Chinese red beans, milk, crushed ice, and vanilla ice cream.

  • House of Good Fortune will go over the history and significance of Shu Fa (書法), Chinese Calligraphy, where you’ll be able to see examples of the tools used, called the “Four Treasures of the Study.”
    • Writing Brush (with animal hair nib) – Bi 筆      
    • Inkstick (ink in its solid state) – Mo 墨
    • Ink Slab (made of stone) – Yan 硯
    • Paper (rice paper) – Zhi 紙
  • A calligraphy demonstration will be held every Wednesday in May from 2:00-3:00 pm ET and 6:00-7:00 pm ET.

Disney Springs

At Disney Springs, you’ll be able to find new food offerings and learn more about Asian Pacific American filmmakers, artists, authors, and screenwriters in the artist spotlight series over at The Art of Disney.

  • Chef Jessi Sudsa-nguan, Pastry Sous Chef at Amorette’s Patisserie, will be making her Jasmine Tea Cream Tart — a light dessert with fruit gelee and a butter and nut cookie crust.
  • You’ll also  be able to find the following around Disney Springs:

  • Mulan Petit Cake, Amorette’s Patisserie – Matcha chiffon, lemon chiffon, honey-ginger mousse, lemon curd, lemon-ginger streusel, and green tea simple syrup.

  • Matcha Yuzu Ganache Square, The Ganachery – Green tea and yuzu dark chocolate ganache.

  • Korean BBQ Fries, The Daily Poutine – Korean-style bulgogi pulled pork and kimchi topped with Sriracha aïoli piled high on French fries.

  • Morimoto Asia will have a special dining menu through the month of May, featuring:
    • Lomilomi – Salmon tartare with tomatoes, onions and scallions.
    • Loco Moco – a traditional Hawaiian burger rice bowl made with a blend of filet and A5 wagyu topped with a sunny-side-up egg and teriyaki mushroom gravy.
    • Saimin – a Hawaiian-style ramen with a dashi shrimp broth, thin noodles and roasted pork (available at Morimoto Asia Street Food.)
    • Halo-Halo – a Filipino shaved ice dessert with flavored jellies and fresh fruit.
    • Cocktails & Mocktails – Pair your dishes with a Morimoto Mai Tai, Japanese Old Fashioned, Toki Highball, or a Sago at Gulaman Mocktail.

  • The Art of Disney will have the artist spotlight series focus on Asian Pacific American filmmakers, artists, authors, and screenwriters who work or have worked at the Walt Disney Animation Studios including Qui Nguyen, Mohit Kallianpur, Fawn Veerasunthorn, Willie Ito, Gyo Fujikawa, Milton Quon, and Disney Legend Tyrus Wong.
  • Basin will be donating a portion of proceeds from purchases of their Eucalyptus Mint Soap to benefit the AAPI Community Fund.

Walt Disney World Resort Hotels

At the resorts, Guests will be able to see films highlighting AAPI communities and cultures during the “Movie Under the Stars” series featuring films such as Big Hero 6, Moana, Mulan, and Lilo and Stitch on select nights each week.
