- An upcoming special edition of 20/20 will revisit the story of Erin Brockovich who brought to light the connection between groundwater contamination in the town of Hinkley, California, and the energy company Pacific Gas & Electric.
- Brockovich’s work twenty-five years ago, helped trigger a landmark $333 million settlement with the residents of Hinkley.
- During the one-hour primetime special, The Real Rebel: The Erin Brockovich Story, cameras follow Brockovich as she visits Hinkley for the first time in 10 years.
- The special will cover how the town is still reeling from the groundwater contamination and shows Brokovich as she reunites with residents she met when working on the case, who moved away to escape exposure to the tainted water supply.
- The Real Rebel dives into Brockovich’s little-known backstory revealing:
- Additionally, Rebel creator and executive producer Krista Vernoff, reveals her surprising similarities the character of Annie Bello shares with Brockovich in real life.
- The special also features an exclusive interview with Brockovich’s daughter, Elizabeth about life today, over a decade after she first opened up to ABC News about her struggles with substance abuse.
