Jon Favreau’s Star Wars Series to be “The Mandalorian”

On Instagram. Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book, Iron Man) revealed details of his upcoming live-action Star Wars series that will be coming to the Disney Streaming Service. For more about the future of Star Wars’ TV and streaming future, read our recent story.

The series appears to be about a Mandalorian:

The Mandalorian: After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic

What This Means:

  • The series will focus on the fan-favorite race of Mandalorians, first made popular by Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back
  • The show will take place between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens
  • Show will be removed from the Skywalker Saga

UPDATE 10/4/18:

  • The first episode will be directed by Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels)
  • Other directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones)
  • Rick Famuyiwa (Dope)
  • Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates)
  • Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).

In addition to The Mandalorian, other Star Wars films and series are in development.

  • Star Wars: Resistance is an animated series that begins on Disney Channel October 7
  • J.J Abrams is currently in production on Star Wars: Episode IX
  • A new trilogy, unrelated to the Skywalker Saga, is under development by Rian Johnson
  • An unknown series of film is being developed by Game of Thrones’  David Benioff and D.B. Weiss
