First Thoughts on WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure

When they first announced Avengers Campus, I was amazed that they were somehow going to fit a Spider-Man ride into such a small space. But they managed to create a fun experience in a small footprint that should appeal to guests of all ages.

While I will save a full review for a later date, I do want to share my initial thoughts on the WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure attraction. So what was my first impression? It’s a lot of fun and it’s hard to experience the attraction without a smile on your face. However, let’s be clear, the attraction is much smaller in scope than anything in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge or the Spider-Man attraction at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

Of course, small scale attractions can often bring a lot of joy. There is something fun about shooting webs with Spider-Man. While it’s odd that the attraction doesn’t feature any kind of swinging motion, thwipping with your hands and seeing the webs appear on screen is a blast.

Without spoiling anything, there are various rooms that include all sorts of integrated Marvel storytelling, which caught me by surprise. I have no doubt that each of the three main rooms is filled with Easter Eggs and details, but unfortunately I was too focused on helping Spider-Man to see everything. Repeated rides are required in order to see all that WEB SLINGERS has to offer.

For those wondering, the pacing is more like Toy Story Mania than Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters. You experience three distinct chapters, with individual scores instead of going on one long continuous adventure. You also get an individual score and rating, as well as a team score for your entire vehicle. While I am sure the for-purchase web shooters add to the experience, I am pleased to say that a great score is attainable without any enhancements.

I also love that we have a decent sized adventure attraction without a height requirement. It is great to know that future heroes of all ages will be able to thwip along with Spider-Man and not be sidelined while adults figure out how to do a child-swap. In that way, Web Slingers in a nice compliment to the full adventure of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
