Roy Disney Statue at the Magic Kingdom
Roy and Minnie Statue

The statue below was recently installed in the Magic Kingdom. It is dedicated to Roy Oliver Disney, Walt Disney's brother and the man who was determined to get Walt Disney World opened despite Walt's death. On October 25th, 1971, Roy dedicated Walt Disney World in a nationally televised ceremony. Roy died two months after the dedication on December 20, 1971. The statue, located in the interior of Town Square (Roy's back is to the Christmas Tree) is a wonderful complement to the "Partners" statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse located at the hub.

The plaque above reads:
Walt Disney World is a tribute to the philosophy and
life of Walter Elias Disney and to the talents, the dedication and the loyalty of the
entire Disney organization that made Walt Disney's dream come true. May Walt Disney World
bring joy and inspiration and new knowledge to all who come to this happy place ... a
Magic Kingdom where the young at heart of all ages can laugh and play and learn together.
Dedicated this 25th day of October, 1971.
Roy O. Disney
