Disney in the Classroom

Disney in the Classroom
As we end the school year I thought I'd share how I use Disney in the classroom. In later articles I'll discuss how Disney shorts and movies enrich my teaching of U.S. History. First, however, I want to relate how I use Disney to motivate my students.
The Flag
The flag that hangs at the entrance to my classroom tells students that this isn't a typical high school class. High school classes give students information to prepare them for college or work. My course also prepares them to be good citizens. We do a lot of normal educational tasks. We read the textbook, take tests, write paragraphs, take notes, and do reports. Now you know that you almost fell asleep during that last sentence, and that's the problem for many of my students. By the time they get to high school learning is a task not a joy. I use Disney in the classroom to take my students back to a time when they wanted to go to school, when learning was fun. Most people loved school when they loved Disney movies and cartoon characters. My classroom is set up to take them back to that time in their life
