Coverage of the dedication ceremony for Dick Nunis' window on Main Street.

Rows of little chairs sat in front of the new sports store at the southeast corner of Main Street. Gradually the guests began to arrive. It was like watching a family reunion at Thanksgiving, complete with lots of hugging and laughter. The scene was full of names that any Disney fan would recognize.

Names like John Hench, considered Walt’s right-hand man during Disneyland construction and Ron Dominguez, former executive Vice-President of Disneyland. We could also see Morgan "Bill" Evans, Disneyland Landscaping and Jack Lindquist, former president of Disneyland. Scanning the audience again I spotted Marty Sklar, Vice-Chairman and Principle Creative Executive, W.D.I. Slowly the Main Street melodies faded off and the Disneyland Band appeared. Disneyland Executive Vice-President Cynthia Harriss was introduced and her trip to the podium was accompanied by the refrains of When You Wish Upon a Star.

Ms. Harris began her comments by thanking everyone for coming out for this special event.

"Today we are dedicating the Main Street Window to the former Chairman of the Walt Disney Attractions, Dick Nunis. Receiving a window on Main Street is the highest honor any Cast Member can achieve. The tradition began many years ago with Walt Disney himself as he chose to honor those very special cast members to give credit where credit is due. A Main Street window was Walt’s way of expressing his appreciation for that extraordinary extra effort in making Disneyland the magical place it is today. So I can’t think of anyone more deserving of that than Dick Nunis. So without further adieu I think it is time to introduce the man of the hour. Ladies and Gentlemen presenting Dick Nunis."

Mr. Nunis and Mickey Mouse rode out from the gate beside the Mad Hatter in a little blue motorcar while the Disneyland Band played Zip A Dee Do Dah.
