A first look at the new Animal Kingdom Lodge at the Walt Disney World Resort.

On April 16, 2001 Walt Disney World's newest hotel, the Animal Kingdom Lodge, official opens. This past weekend an open house was held at the new hotel. These pictures are from that open house. For more general information about The Animal Kingdom Lodge, see the Animal Kingdom Lodge press release.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge features 1,293 guest rooms, three restaurants, a swimming pool, two spas, a kiddie pool, a playground and a large shop. But the highlight of the lodge is the 33-acre savannah around the resort where animals roam freely and can even be seen from guest room balconies.

Following are more than 30 pictures from the Animal Kingdom Lodge preview.
