On Monday, June 16th, at the St. Regis Hotel, auditions were held for hosts of the new Who Wants To Be a Millionaire - Play It! attraction, opening this fall at Disney's California Adventure. Dozens of actors - many already employed at the Disneyland Resort showed up to give their one minute monologue and hopefully get a callback.

The Regis wanna-bes

The Casting Director for the attraction is Megan Bywater. We had the opportunity to sit down with Megan and ask her about the process:

LaughingPlace.com: What are you looking for today in a “Regis”?

Megan Bywater: Today I’m looking for someone who has a great personality, a sense of humor, someone who is quick witted. They must have very good improv skills because you never know what is going to happen with the guest sitting across from them in the chair. We’re casting both male or female. And we’re not necessarily looking for a Regis look a like. We’re looking for a host.

LP: What are these auditioners going to go through?

MB: What we’ve asked them to do is we’ve asked them to prepare a one minute monologue, something that is lighthearted that shows their personality. We might ask them a few questions and that’s how we’re going to handle it today. If they get invited to come to callbacks I’ll ask them to…we’re going to play the game a little bit -  one will play the guest. And we’ll go back and forth, ask the questions, and do a little spiel about Millionaire.

Megan explains the process to the auditioners

LP: How many people will you be selecting?

MB: We’re looking at maybe around eight. That’s not a firm number. That’s still up in the air.

LP: Will there be other auditions?

MB: We will be going to San Francisco. I’ll be going to San Francisco later this week. And once I’ve seen everyone in Los Angeles and San Francisco I’ll make my casting decisions from there.

LP: Is Regis the only role you are casting for?

MB: Yes, we’re considering it the host but that host will also do some floor manager stuff so it is really, truly is the only thing we are casting.

LP: I’ve seen it in Florida where the cast members rotate roles. Will it be the same thing here?

MB: Same thing! Yes, they’re going to rotate through. We’re excited to be here. We know it’s a huge success in Florida so we’re looking to do the same out here. See some great actors and have a great show.
