64. Maglev Monorail?
LaughingPlace reader Gregottinger writes:
Bobs articles were great, especially regarding the original monorails. I would like to hear his thoughts on the idea taking the monorails into the 21st century and making them a maglev system. I think the Disneyland route would be a fantastic testing ground for Maglevs, not to mention a great successor to the original monorails. I think Walt would have loved the idea.
The Maglev idea has undergone a ton of experimentation in the last 43 years. Starting out as sort of a pipedream, Maglev is very real today. Many organizations in various countries are rapidly developing new advanced systems that can easily reach speeds of over 550 KPH.
A 350 MPH Monorail sure wouldn't fit inside Disneyland...but it would be a fast ride to Disneyland from Las Vegas.
The best way to look at Maglev Monorail is to start with The Monorail Society's internet site at: http://www.monorails.org/tMspages/MagMono.html
Also go to the site for the Railway Technical Research Institute at:http://www.rtri.or.jp/rd/maglev/html/english/maglev_frame_E.html
And you can enter "Maglev" in any internet search site and find extensive information on Monorail Maglev way beyond what could be described in Designer Times.
So this month's Designer Times is going to be a quickie, since there is so much to go look up on the subject of Maglev Monorail. I'll bet that Walt would have loved to have seen Maglev Monorail connecting EPCOT from far away places.

You could tell how proud he was when he would show off things to his friends and the press. Lincoln and the Monorail were two big ones for him."
