The weather was beautiful. I love this kind of weather; cool, with mild sunshine. I gather a lot of other people also love this kind of weather, because the park was packed Saturday, November 12. Though I must say, even with the crowds, people seems mild and well behaved, making what would have been an exasperating day very nice.

There were so many people, that management decided, about eight thirty pm, to add a third Fantasmic Show to its lineup. I heard this while standing on Coke Corner, finding my place for the fireworks. The news was met with a lot of astonished, yet not surprised, looks from the guests.

I had been without my Disney AP for many moons now, and today I had gotten it back, a birthday present from my wife. Despite the advertising, this day did feel like a homecoming to me. The weather, the renewal, and good friends – this was a great day.

The start of a day of surprises

While waiting for some good friends to show up, I busied myself catching up on what I had been missing for several months. I finally got to watch the Steve Martin/Donald Duck movie at the 50th exhibit at the Main Street Opera House. Though I did enjoy the movie, I had the strange feeling I was watching a commercial for Disneyland, IN Disneyland. I felt conflicted, like watching a movie of someone enjoying a box of popcorn, instead of walking outside and getting one for myself.

Walking down Main Street, I came upon a sign sitting outside Disneyana. The hipster artist Shag was at Disneyland that day, signing copies of his artwork. (See previous column). This was news to me. The only problem was that I was between sets, and probably wouldn’t have the chance to meet with him in person. I would have liked to, since I admire his work very much. The small Disneyana shop was filled with people looking over the Shag rayon shirts, and waiting for Him.

Snoozing after a long day of eggnog and caroling…

The Clauses and their reindeer are back at the Ranch, and that place was crowded also. As usual, the Mr. and Mrs. Claus were wonderful with the guests, and the children were genuinely delighted to have them there. Some traditions never grow old. Why do children instinctively know the Clauses, and love them? I wonder…
