Meet the world: LaughingPlace.com meets happen every now and then and usually a handful of people show up - always fun. But once a year, on Disneyland's birthday, the big meet takes place. On July 17, 2001 at Fantasia Gardens the second large LP reader meet took place. Once again lots of people showed up and we had a blast finally placing faces to names and sharing stories. One enterprising young reader even came up with the "Golden Doobie Awards" given out to those who esteemed themselves in one way or another on the Discussion Boards - all in good fun, of course. On a related note, it's always great when someone comes up to Rebekah and I when we're at the park and says hello. We've had some people write us and say they saw us at the park but didn't want to bother us so they didn't say hi. Trust me - it's never a bother. We love to know the people who are reading the site. It always makes our day when we get to meet a reader at the park.

The July 17, 2001 LP Reader Meet

Janet is wearing a stylish...: For quite a while we've had requests to sell LaughingPlace.com shirts, hats, whatever. We've given away buttons for quite a while but had been hesitant to sell anything. Well in 2001 we finally bit the bullet and sold LaughingPlace.com t-shirts. A few times we've been at the park and noticed someone wearing one - that's pretty cool! So in 2002 I think it's a safe bet more LP Gear will be coming.

If there's one constant, it's change: Staff changes are a regular occurence around here. For example in 2001 we added one very popular Internet columnist to our staff - Jim Hill. We also lost one - Jim Hill. Luckily a number of other very popular writers started and are still here in 2002, among them The Fabulous Disney Babe herself, Michelle Smith, Toon Talk's Kirby Holt along with his very popular Toon Talk Specials, merchandise writer Kim Petersen and finally a regular Walt Disney World writer, Steve Halpin. As always, I'd like to thank all LaughingPlace.com contributors of every type - past and present - for all they've done. For a complete list, see our About Us page.

10, 9, 8...: A small thing, unless you're the one going, our Trip Countdown has been very popular with our trip planning readers. Come on every day and a big number on the right tells you exactly how many days are left until you can leave work behind and have fun with the mouse!

You can't teach speed: One thing that's always bothered me about our Discussion Boards was lack of speed. Unfortunately there was no one to blame since I created them. Well in December I'd had enough and I set about speeding them up. The result - they're faster! There haven't been too many people saying the boards are much faster, but there haven't been any saying they're still slow, so I'll count that in the success column ... and hopefully writing here won't jinx it.

And More to Come
So what's to come in 2002? I can't tell ya. But I can tell you there are three big things (big to us anyway) that we're working on. The first is only a few weeks away. The others are for later in the year. All are very exciting to us and we hope you'll enjoy them as well. Along with those we'll continue to bring you theme park updates, interviews, columns (and if history is our guide we'll add some columnists and lose others), reviews, special series', guides and additions to the site as a whole - pretty much everything you've come to expect from LaughingPlace.com.
