Waiting for a soggy Paraade

And even though some attractions are closed, they won't be too missed - especially not by little ones like the one we watched last Saturday. Doobie and I enjoyed watching a little boy splash in the puddles at DCA’s Sun Court. He just kept running back and forth through it. Finally his parent picked him up and headed toward Condor Flats. The little boy definitely didn’t want to leave his puddle. He was kicking and screaming. We saw a couple of kids really enjoying splashing around and others playing around the ponchos and trying to keep from tripping over them.

Mickey’s Rainy Day Calvalcade

But the rainy days did and still do have their drawbacks beside the obvious wet and cold. Entertainment around the park is reduced. Fireworks and Fantasmic! are often cancelled. Parades are either cancelled or run in a very limited way. Sometimes they replace the scheduled parade with Mickey’s Rainy Day Calvalcade which is the Omnibus cruising down Main Street loaded with Disney characters. Along the parade route the few guests who continued to brave the rain would wave to the characters. Many of these guests were wearing the bright yellow ponchos with the picture of Mickey on the back that are sold throughout the Park. Over at DCA the ponchos are blue and have the Disneyland Resort logo. It was fun to see the various colors displayed during the recent rains. Billy Hill of the Billy Hill and the Hillbillies worked the ponchos into the act. He joked about how pleased he was to see blue and yellow seated near each other as during the previous performance they had been fighting. Spotting a lady wearing a clear poncho he congratulated her for staying out of the conflict and remaining neutral.

Another highlight of the rainy days before the expansion was heading over to the Disneyland Hotel and enjoying a steaming hot bowl of Tortilla Soup at Stromboli’s or a cup of their hot chocolate. I don’t know how or why but at the bottom of a cup of Stomboli’s hot chocolate would be a nice thick layer of chocolate syrup. Mmmm.

Now with the Disneyland Resort expansion there are many more ways to spend the rainy day indoors. We can now duck into the AMC Theater for a film in hopes the rains will pass quickly or visit the Storyteller’s Café to enjoy the fireplaces and hot soup. While the small crowds the rains bring have been a nice treat, I’m ready to visit DCA under the warm California sun.
