#77 - "Out There"
The Hunchback of Notre Dame - 1996
Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz

"Won't resent, won't despair
Old and bent, I won't care
I'll have spent one day
Out there"

Vocals: Tom Hulce as Quasimodo, with Tony Jay as Frollo
Source Album: The Hunchback of Notre Dame Original Soundtrack

Behind the Music:

  • Oscar nomination for Original Score - Musical or Comedy, Golden Globe nomination for Best Score.
  • In Der Glockner Von Notre Dame, the German stage version of the movie, this song is known as "Draussen".  The Quasimodo/Frollo duet at the beginning of the song is separated and expanded into the song "Zuflucht (Sanctuary)".

#78 - "God Help The Outcasts"
The Hunchback of Notre Dame - 1996
Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz

"I ask for wealth, I ask for fame
I ask for glory to shine on my name
I ask for love I can possess
I ask for God and His angles to bless me"

Lead Vocals: Heidi Mollenhauer as Esmeralda
Source Album: The Hunchback of Notre Dame Original Soundtrack
Alternate Track: Bette Midler performs the song on a bonus track on the soundtrack album.

Behind the Music:

  • In Der Glockner Von Notre Dame, the song is titled "Helf Den Verstoss'nen", and Quasimodo sings it along with Esmeralda.

#79 - "Someday"
The Hunchback of Notre Dame - 1996
Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz

"There are some days dark and bitter
Seems we haven't got a prayer
But a prayer for someday better
Is the one thing we all share"

Vocals: Lee Roy Parnell
Source Album: The Best of Country Sing the Best of Disney
Track Note:
Like "If I Never Knew You", the original pop version doesn't do this song justice.
Original Vocals/Source Album: All-4-One, The Hunchback of Notre Dame Original Soundtrack

Behind the Music:

  • Originally Esmeralda's solo in the cathedral, the song was replaced with "God Help the Outcasts" and used during the end-credits of the film.
  • It was resurrected, with additional lyrics, in Der Glockner Von Notre Dame as "Einmal", a duet between Esmeralda and Phoebus after they are imprisoned by Frollo.
  • Disco diva Donna Summer's dance rendition can be heard on Mouse House.
