The next Disneyland title here is “Jiminy Cricket Fire Fighter (D50, 1956). This not-so-charming story was a cautionary horror story, which depicts Disneyland as a filthy fire trap!

Jiminy Cricket, making his carefree way through the happiest place on earth, is shocked to find an apparently enraged Mickey trying to fix the worn out fire wagon.

Fire Chief Mickey explains that he is kept constantly busy, due to the carelessness of “the people in this town.�? A two page spread then depicts the hazardous conditions that caused this deplorable situation.

Jiminy privately resolves to do his part, and sets off through the “town.�? At Donald’s house he finds the nephews racing around in their pajamas, playing “Wild Indian,�? dangerously close to an exposed heater. At Minnie’s house he finds her busily dusting her refrigerator, oblivious to the fact that a pile of combustible trash has accumulated at her back door.

Horace Horsecollar has left smoldering leaves in his yard, and Clarabelle Cow has an iron and a lamp with badly frayed cords. Worst of all, Goofy has apparently fallen asleep with his feet in a blazing fireplace.

Actually, Goofy is only relaxing in front of the fire, unaware that sparks have actually set his roof on fire.

In each case, Jiminy whispers a safety jingle in the offender’s ear. And each takes quick action to avert disaster. The end of the book finds Mickey all smiles, as fires no longer threaten Disneyland. The final question in “Jiminy Cricket Fire Fighter�? is ominous: What would Jiminy Cricket find in your house?
