Disney Cruise Line Caribbean Cruise - Part 1

After a brief assimilation, we decided it was time to explore the ship. However, first we had to gather in Animators Palate restaurant, dressed in our finest orange lifevests (provided free of charge!) in order to comply with international safety regulations. It was an extremely strange sight seeing hundreds of guests and cast complete with huge foam-filled vibrant orange floatation devices, unable to move their necks! Luckily the drill passed with success and we could quickly swap the float for more elegant clothes as we explored the ship.
As we arrived on Deck 9 to visit the three pools, the Farewell Deck Party was kicking off. It seemed like every child guest had quickly found a new home in the pool (where it seemed most of them would spend every waking second of the next week!) and they were relishing the ritual humiliation of their fathers in some contest. The purpose was to introduce the kids to their programming counsellors who ran the Oceaneers Club (for kids aged 3 to 7) and Oceaneers Lab (designed for 7 to 11 year olds). The sheer energy of the cast concerned was exhausting to watch as they taught the kids (and willing parents) various dance moves.

Some unusual sailors and ship-mates join guests on Deck 9 (hopefully they aren't in
charge!)

We watched from the Deck 10 promenade as the hot Florida sun bore down on us as we awaited the departure from the port. Cast members mingled with guests, handing out paddle fans, encouraging guests to participate in the festivities. Captain Henry greeted us over the tannoy and we eagerly counted down to the official start of the cruise. Instead of a standard blast from the ships horn, we were surprised to hear the horn echo the refrain of When You Wish Upon a Star! As the ship gracefully slipped out of its moorings and set sail on its inaugural Western Caribbean cruise, it finally dawned on us that we were finally on our way.

A blast of the horn and a flurry of steamers signals the launch of the inaugural western
Caribbean cruise!
