October 2007 marks the 25th anniversary of the Epcot theme park at Walt Disney World Resort. Following are 25 remarkable facts about Epcot:

• It took nearly 3,000 designers and 4,000 construction workers to build the first phase of Epcot.
• 54 million cubic feet of dirt was excavated to build the park.
• Epcot had its soft opening Sept. 28, 1982, at 4 p.m.
• Spaceship Earth, the visual and thematic centerpiece of Epcot, weighs 16 million pounds, measures 165 feet in diameter and encompasses 2.2 million cubic feet of space. The outer "skin" of Spaceship Earth is made up of 11,324 aluminum and plastic-alloy triangles.
• At Spaceship Earth, Mickey Mouse is hidden in his own constellation just beyond the attraction's loading area.
• The fountain at Epcot Innoventions Plaza can shoot water 150 feet in the air -- within 30 feet of the top of Spaceship Earth. If all of the shooters were fired at once, there would be 2,000 gallons of water in the air

“Candy Corn Acres,” featuring a candy “crop” that only Goofy could grow, is one of the new additions to Disney’s HalloweenTime at Disneyland Resort starting today and running through Oct. 31. The candy corn farm has taken root in Sunshine Plaza in Disney’s California Adventure and features more than 6,000 pieces of decorative candy. The candy corn “fruits and vegetables” growing on stalks, trees and vines include pumpkins, grapes, coconuts and, yes, corn.

Disney-ABC Television Group and AOL Sign Unprecedented Deal to Bring ABC's Primetime Line-up to AOL Video - (DL) (9/20/2007)
ABC and AOL announced that AOL will offer ABC's Emmy-winning broadband episode player on their video website.  This is the first time a major portal is offering a network's broadband player, which will be branded "ABC.com on AOL". 

Fun, Creative New Restaurants Take Epcot Dining Into the Future - (DL) (9/20/2007)
Walt Disney World issued a press release regarding the changes coming to Epcot dinning as the park approaches its 25th anniverary.  Some highlights include the opening of Patina's Tutto Italia at the Italy Pavilion, the October opening of Tokyo Dining and Teppan Edo at the Japan Pavillion, and the upcoming refurbishment of Nine Dragons at the China Pavillion.

40 Celebrated Years 1 Historic Night: Target Presents AFI's 40th Anniversary - (DL) (9/20/2007)
The American Film Institute today announced a historic public event to mark the institute's 40th anniversary. Target Presents AFI's 40th Anniversary is an event of unprecedented scale -- even for Hollywood. Eleven classic American films will screen on a single night, in a single location -- each with a live introduction by the film's legendary star or filmmaker including Angela Lansbury for Beauty and the Beast.

Florida Children's Hospital and Disney Unite to Create Magical Pediatric Hospital - (DL) (9/19/2007)
Walt Disney World announced a $10 million contribution to Florida Children's Hospital, which will be the first hospital to bear the Disney name. Construction on the seven-story, 200-bed facility is expected to be complete in 2010 and will serve the Central Florida community and the almost 50 million visitors who come to Orlando each year.

Hats Off to America! National Treasures Comes to The American Adventure at Epcot - (DL) (9/19/2007)
Walt Disney World announced some of the artifacts that will be a part of the National Treasures exhibit in the American Adventure pavillion.  The exhibit, which will change frequently, will open on September 28.

The Disneyland Resort announced that they will be expanding Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa by more than 30 percent including 50 Disney Vacation Club two-bedroom villas and 200 guest rooms.
