On June 1, Disneyland Resort spokesmen unveiled detailed plans for guests planning to experience the new nighttime water spectacle, World of Color. The show opens to the public on Friday, June 11 at Disney California Adventure, and will be presented twice nightly, at 9pm and 10:15pm.

Vice-president of Disney California Adventure and Guest Services Mary Niven explained that three options would be available for ticketed guests: FASTPASS, “World of Color” Picnic Meals, or Prix Fixe “World of Color” Dinner Packages. Joining her were Michele Gendreau, Director of Food and Beverage Concept and Product Development and Doug McIntyre, Director of Entertainment Development and Production.

FASTPASS will be made available for each showing of World of Color, beginning on Friday, June 11. Existing terminals at the Grizzly River Run attraction will be used to distribute the FASTPASSES, beginning at park opening. Guests who wish to arrive before opening will be directed to the Pumba parking lot on Disney Way, and may begin lining up at 7am at the main entrance of DCA. When the park opens, they will be walked to the FASTPASS location.

FASTPASS tickets will be distributed for both showings. Tickets will be designated for one of three viewing locations, located in Paradise Park and the bridge leading to Paradise Pier. As a limited number of viewing areas are available for each showing, it is expected that all FASTPASS tickets for that evening’s performances will be distributed early in the day. The terminals will then resume distributing tickets for Grizzly River Run.

Guests will stand in the viewing areas, and they may bring strollers with them. Each section is accessible for the disabled, and areas will be reserved in the front of each section for guests in wheelchairs.

Guests who are unable to acquire a FASTPASS for the assigned viewing areas may view World of Color from any other public area around the perimeter of Paradise Bay.

Michele Gendreau explained the dining options. “World of Color” Picnic Meals will be distributed at the Golden Vine Winery on the day of each showing. Beginning June 11 (possibly June 10), purchases may be made on line, up to 60 days in advance. Purchased meals will be available from 2pm to 8pm at the Sonoma Terrace of the Golden Vine Winery. The Sonoma Terrace is the counter service on the west side, the side to the left as you face the winery.

There are four adult meals and three child’s meals available.

“The European Antipasto” consists of  cured meats, regional cheeses, pepperoncini, artichoke heart, sun dried tomatoes, Carr’s Water Crackers, balsamic vinegar and extra-virgin olive oil, and caprese salad skewers (fresh mozzarella and baby heirloom tomatoes), with chocolate dipped tiramisu for dessert. “The Taste of Asia” includes chilled miso-glazed salmon and Asian greens with a soy-rice wine dressing, vegetable spring rolls with Thai mango sauce, soba noodle salad with julienne vegetables in a sesame dressing, with mandarin orange cake for dessert. “The All American” starts with cold honey-stung fried chicken and includes green and red cabbage cole slaw with apple cider dressing, old fashioned potato salad with sweet onions and dill relish, and apple pie for dessert. “The Mediterranean Vegetarian” consists of marinated grilled vegetables in a whole wheat wrap with roasted garlic hummus, raw zucchini and squash spaghettini, first press lemon infused olive oil, vegetable couscous with toasted coriander vinaigrette, and lemon layer cake for dessert.

Beverages are included, or beer and wine are available at additional cost.

The Little Splash of Color includes three kid’s boxed meal options. “Little Squirt’s Box” consists of sliced apples, string cheese, low fat yogurt, goldfish crackers, and World of Color confetti vanilla cupcake. “Junior All American Box” includes a chicken leg, goldfish crackers, apple wedges, and World of Color confetti vanilla cupcake. “Lunchbox Classic” consists of peanut butter and Smucker’s jelly sandwich, apple wedges, and World of Color confetti vanilla cupcake. Each meal includes choice of small low-fat milk, Minute Maid juice box, or small Dasani water. In addition, each child’s meal includes a souvenir World of Color light-up bracelet.

Meals are available for $14.99 each, and may be ordered online at Disneyland.com. An entire party’s online order will be packaged in a souvenir World of Color reusable tote bag. Walk up orders on the day of performances may include reserved viewing, if space is available. Picnics may not be ordered by phone.

Both the Wine Country Trattoria and Ariel’s Grotto will offer prix fixe World of Color meals.

The Wine Country Trattoria meal is $39.99 for adults and $18.99 for children 3-9. The Italian meal consists of choice of starter, entrée and dessert plus a special wine pairing. The Ariel’s Grotto meal starts at $29.99 for adults and $15.99 for children, depending on which starter (seafood sampler with grilled meat or grilled vegetables with cheese) is selected. The meal also includes a choice of entrée and shared family dessert. Following World of Color meals, guests will be offered admission to the Preferred Reserved Viewing area. Reservations for either restaurant may be made up to 60 days in advance by phone at 714-781-DINE.

Following the presentation of the FASTPASS and meal options, Doug McIntyre, Disneyland’s Director of Entertainment Development and Production shared details of Glow Fest, a street party that will precede World of Color. Guests will gather in Sunshine Plaza at about 6pm each night. A host will lead the festivities, assisted by two groups of performers: world dancers who will change from week to week, and a resident troupe, the Glow Dancers. Described as a ritual transition from day to night, this kick-off to Glow Fest will include an interactive “drumming down the sun” ceremony, at sunset.

Following this, shortly after 8pm, the party will move on to Hollywood Boulevard in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot. Special graphics, set pieces and light towers will create a festive atmosphere. Guests will help create this atmosphere by participating in interactive activities that will project their images onto the wall of the Hyperion Theater at the end of the street, as well as in satellite locations. Smaller stages, bars selling specialty drinks, and food vending stands will complete the setting for this phase of the party that will last until DCA’s official closing.

Glow Fest will kick off with World of Color on Friday, June 11.

Following the presentation, a “dress rehearsal” of World of Color was shown to selected media. While photos, videos and descriptions of the show are embargoed until the official media event on June 10, LaughingPlace.com was invited to share up to five images of this performance. These follow this article, along with three additional images from Disney, as well as a short video clip of World of Color.
