Marvel and Edgar Wright announced that he is no longer directing Ant-Man. They released a joint statement saying, “Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their visions of the film,” read a statement released on Friday. “The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”
While director changes are not uncommon, this news is a bit of a shock considering Wright’s long association with the project and the amount of pre-production already completed including casting.
