A Photo Tour of Toy Story Land — A First Look at Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ Newest Land

Today was the first chance for us to step behind the walls and explore Andy’s Backyard — A.K.A. Toy Story Land. This new area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios is beautifully themed and does an excellent job of making you feel right at home with Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear, along with a few Green Army Men, and my personal favorite, the Pizza Planet Aliens.

Stepping into the land, right away you get lost in the sights and sounds of Mega Coaster Play Kit that Andy has transformed into Slinky Dog Dash. This great family coaster is a lot of fun and is sure to be the next “kid’s first coaster.” Luckily, since the track is fully exposed, it gives kids a chance to see all of what they are getting into.

Just like with every Disney•Pixar film, the Imagineers at Disney also go out of the way to add an “Easter egg” or two. I have to say Slinky Dog Dash has one that takes me back to my childhood and how, when getting a toy from the store, my mom would leave the price sticker on it. In this case, the tag celebrates the release year of the very first Pixar film, Toy Story!

If you haven’t had a chance to visit “a bug’s land” in Disney California Adventure or any of the other Toy Story Lands overseas, you are in for a real treat. The theming from the K’NEX railings to the GIANT Andy footprints across the land really drive home the “YOU. ARE. A. TOY!” (to quote Woody) feeling.

The Alien Swirling Saucers attraction really does feel like you are stepping into a fun playset. From its oversize things to play within the queue right up to the fun Alien controlled saucers, it is hard not to laugh and act like a kid…or I guess a toy.

Toy Story Mania also has a new entrance that really gives you the feeling that you are stepping into a box and adds a new layer to the same great attraction we all have loved for years!

Of course, we can’t forget about Woody’s Lunchbox — home of what will be my go-to food when in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Naturally, there are also some fun merchandise items you can take home to not only commemorate the Toy Story Land’s grand opening but also bring some of the fun home with you.

Now, as much as I love Toy Story Land, it is hard not to look next door (would that make it Sid’s backyard) and catch a glimpse of something coming soon.

Make your plans now to visit Andy’s Backyard soon and say hi to some old friends! Toy Story Land officially opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on June 30th. Stay tuned to Laughing Place for much more coverage on this new land all weekend.
