Disneyland Increases Ticket Prices

Effective January 5, 2000, Disneyland has increased the price of admission. One-day passport prices have increased $2 to $41. Children 11 and under are $31, also up $2. Two-day passports are now $76 for adults (up $4) and $57 for children (up $3). The three-day passport price has not changed.

In addition, Disneyland has reinstated their Resident Salute program offering discounted tickets for residents of Southern California (zip codes 90000-93599). Now through May 17th, Southern California residents can purchase a one-day passport to Disneyland for $31. The price is the same for adults and children and the passport must be used the same day as it is purchased. Each resident can purchase up to five passports.

Disneyland also has a new Anaheim Resident Salute program available. From now until March 31st residents of Anaheim can purchase a one-day passport for $25. Proof of Anaheim residence must be shown and up to five passports can be purchased.

Comparisons
Despite the increase, Disneyland is much less expensive to visit than Walt Disney World. A one-day passport to any of the four major Walt Disney Parks currently costs $46.64 (tax included). But Disneyland is slightly more expensive than other Southern California theme parks. Following is a list of one-day adult ticket prices for near by theme parks:

  • Knott's Berry Farm: $38
  • Universal Studios: $39
  • Six Flags Magic Mountain: $39
  • Legoland: $32
  • Sea World: $39

History
The price increase comes as no surprise. Disney has annually increased prices since at least 1986 (with the exception of 1991). In 1986 a one-day passport to Disneyland cost $19 and by 1990 it was $27.50. In 1991 Disneyland instituted the Resident Salute program. Southern California residents could purchase a one-day passport for $20 at that time (compared to a normal price of $27.50). Parking prices have also gone up, but much less regularly. In 1990 parking was $4. It is now $7.
