La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil(R) Celebrates Five Years at Walt Disney World Resort
Florida Residents Can 'Live It Up' With 20 Percent Savings at Cirque du Soleil(R)

With grand fanfare today, La Nouba at Walt Disney World Resort kicked off a six-month series of special events that will offer guests a never-before glimpse backstage into the artistic talents of the Cirque du Soleil performers.

In the five years since its Walt Disney World debut in 1999, the critically acclaimed production has presented more than 2,500 performances, captivating more than 3.5 million guests with a production that conveys the French phrase "faire la nouba" -- to live it up.

From the newly dressed big top of colorful images to behind-the-scenes offerings with artists and musicians, the celebration is on at Cirque du Soleil at Downtown Disney West Side.

For Florida residents there are savings to go with the celebration. Cirque du Soleil offers Florida residents a 20 percent savings on select seats through Sept. 30.

"We're excited to celebrate with such a talented and creative team that over the years has offered our Downtown Disney guests such a spectacular over- the-top experience," said Ed Baklor, vice president of Downtown Disney.

During the six months of the Cirque du Soleil salute, La Nouba artists will create a variety of special events:

  • In July, a photo gallery situated inside the theater will showcase images from behind the curtain and captivating moments with Cirque du Soleil performers. This photography display was created by accomplished photographers Yuri Maiorov, better known as La Nouba's flying man, and Jean- Francios Bedard, a musician in the show.
  • In August, as all eyes turn to Athens, Greece, for the Summer Games, La Nouba will recognize its own performers who have competed at world-championship levels, as well as aspiring young performers. Cirque du Soleil coaches will invite Central Florida children to a special workshop training session.
  • In September, the sounds of La Nouba take center stage. The talented musicians who set the mood for the show with provocative music will hit all the notes in a jam session staged at Downtown Disney.
  • The team will share its artistry with guests attending the annual Festival of the Masters art show Nov. 12-14 at Downtown Disney.
