Cynthia Harriss bade everyone good morning, and welcomed us all to “this very special ceremony”, speaking of how honored she was to be there to celebrate Charles’s outstanding career. She went on to proclaim that “It’s not just a special day for Charles, it’s a very special day for all of our guests and our cast members here at the Disneyland Resort, for today is the 44th birthday of Disneyland!” and to remind everyone that “It was forty-four years ago today that Walt Disney himself dedicated our park with those famous words: “To all who come to this special place, welcome.  Disneyland is your land.” Walt gave this park to everyone, and I quote, 'with the hope that it will be the source of inspiration and joy to all the world.'”

To Boyer, she voiced, “As our Master illustrator you’ve shared Walt Disney’s joy and inspiration by creating wonderful works of art. Many of your celebrated works of art have been in dedication to previous Park birthdays, so it seems very appropriate today, on July 17th, Disneyland’s birthday is your day for celebration.”  Furthermore, she related how much the resort cast members have always cherished his work and that it wouldn’t be a birthday without him there, nor would it be a birthday without a song.  Taking their cue, the Dapper Dans led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to Disneyland.

Continuing, Ms. Harriss talked of how people like Charles make an already special place like Disneyland even more so, and how from his first days as a portrait artist until becoming Master Illustrator, Charles has “carried on Walt Disney’s legacy with true affection for our characters and our Park.” She also explained that, “in each piece of art Charles has put a piece of himself and for nearly forty years Charles has created beautiful artwork that is shared with millions around the world,” and that he has been “extending the Disney magic that will live on for centuries and centuries to come …and he’s done this with brilliance, and people worldwide will seek out and collect Charles’s artwork because of the magic and dedication that are exemplified in each one of those strokes.”  She spoke of the tradition started by Walt Disney to honor “those very, very special Cast Members who were extraordinary in creating the magic of Disneyland”, by creating a window for them on Main Street, U.S.A.
