Disney Cruise Line Caribbean Cruise - Part 4

We returned to the ship just prior to the last tender at 5pm and quickly joined the cruise staff on Deck 9 for the Cinco de Mayo Sailaway Deck Party. Largely designed for children, there were games and activities including piñatas and a highly energetic D.J.

The evening entertainment also included Morty the Magnificent, an original production, devoid of Disney characters and trademark music. Described as a "madcap, magical musical", the show is entertaining and amusing, but lacks any theatrical punch with average songs and flat staging. The show itself is a re-working of C’est Magique which itself lacked the success of the DCL’s other Disney-inspired productions. The show charts the failings of Morty the Magician, who unable to perform successfully, is in danger of losing his assistant girlfriend, Daphne. The attempt by the cast to make the musical work is admirable and the characters are engaging, if lacking in substance and depth. Each is clichéd and it is a struggle to associate with the difficulties experienced by Morty and his crew. The show is the weakest on board the Disney Magic, but remains entertaining and an enjoyable way to start the evening.

Having rotated through all three restaurants, it was time to return to Lumiere’s. After a delicious meal, we retired with our other table guests to Rockin’ Bar D, the adult bar in the Beat Street nightclub complex on Deck 3. The bar was already packed as we arrived in time to see the Walt Disney Theatre cast take to the stage for a series of dance routines based on musical numbers from the ‘80s. The evening was entitled the TIME WARP and saw the cast dance to numbers such as Thriller, Billy Jean, Footloose and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Many guests reluctantly joined in as the cast dragged them on to the dance floor. The energy of the dancers was phenomenal as they gyrated to the tunes. The entire show was slick, professional and vastly entertaining.

As Wednesday arrived, we decided it was time for bed as we needed to recharge our batteries in preparation for Cozumel.
