Erik Bauersfeld, best known for voicing Admiral Akbar in the Star Wars saga, has passed away. He was 93 years old. According to USA Today, the actor died Sunday while in his Berkley, California home.
Undoubtedly Bauersfeld’s most well-known line comes from Return of the Jedi when Akbar declares, “It’s a trap!” In 2011, Bauersfeld told the San Fransisco Chronicle, “I don’t even remember how I said it. It’s not that I don’t like it or don’t respect it. I just don’t have time to be a fan and see it 10 times or 20 times.” The actor also said that he decided on the voice for Akbar immediately after seeing the character. “I saw the face, and I knew what he must sound like,” he said.
