This is a quick and bumpy ride but loads of fun. Be sure to try out each side as they both provide a different experience. May be scary to smaller children.

Awesome Ride! A True Classic indeed! When Disney Teamed up with Arrow Dynamics to build the first steel coaster, they lit the fuse for Magic Mountain and Knott's. I'm very impressed that Disney has allowed the original tracks to stay (which they better, they are historic) since they always are overhauling rides. Space Mountain got a complete re-tracking, and is younger then the Matterhorn. But I'm happy they have not yet decided to piss-off ACE, and rip out the history-making tubular steel track. It's as bumpy as steel coasters get, and is bumpier then some wooden coasters, but it's always a fun ride. Lines are worth the wait on this one. It's also fun at night, so try it then. Best advice is to get in line 5-mins before park-closing, since you can't be denied a ride when in-line.

I love this ride. It gets bumpy but it will get smoother once you get on it more. It's really fun and you should ride it when you come to Disneyland!!!

Still love it after all these years. Do miss the Skyway going through it though. Used to be cool to see the sleds racing through the mountain from the Skyway.

"Remain Seated Please" it's hard on your caboose, but a fun ride with great views of Tomorrowland and Fantasyland, so scream, yell and hold on to your lederhosen!

It is a decent ride, it is old so you have to give it the benifit of the doubt there. It is a fun ride when all of the other rides have long waits.

This ride rocks! I've ridden it countless times. No doubt, it's a thrill ride. When in the line you will see there is a fork that splits to opposite sides of the mountain. There is a bumpy side and a smooth side. I profer the bumpy side myself. The bumpy side is on the Fantasyland side, while the smooth side is on the Tommorrowland side. No Fastpasses, so try hitting this ride first thing in the morning. Happy Bobsledding!

I love the Matterhorn, but I recommend the Tomorrowland side over the Fantasyland side.

Thrilling roller coaster, tight caverns, and the everpresent abominable snowman just waiting to scare the crap out of you! If you have a sensitive rump, don't ride this. The scariest part of the ride for me is how the bobsleds sound as they speed along the track, like the track is falling apart. Highly recommended!

i think this a wonderful attraction. It very beautiful with all the waterfall, lakes, and landscapting. Also the views from the attaction are incredible. I find myself riding the Matterhorn the most of all the attractions at Disneyland.

Damn good views from the top! Especially at the "lost expedition" scene; you can see clear into the other park! The Yeti scares me witless (take the left track and see what I mean for yourself). A definite favorite of mine, the last time at the park, I rode it 6 times! Twice in the morning (long lines, but quick), four in the afternoon/night (very long, but just as quick). Managed to snag the last ride on the left track for the evening, and it was a blast!

This is one of my favorite rides in the park! When you ride it, put the heavier people in the front and lean into the turns! i can't say for sure if it makes you go faster, but it sure feels like it!

Damn fun. Way better than the alleged out of control train in Frontierland. It actually looks like a scaled-down version of the real thing in Switzerland even. Great fun.

The cast members officially name their ride "The Rock" and name their snowman mascot "Herold". There is actually a Herold doll located inside the mountain...in an anonymous place. Cast Members from other Fantasyland rides like to jokingly kidnap Herold, and offer him for Ransom. Definitely an attraction that most cast members are proud to work, and a favorite attraction of mine for many years.

Anyone know how high the actual mountain is?I know the coaster itself is only 80 ft. and the basketball court which I have seen pictures of is NOT at the exact top.I am not sure where it is, but it could be at the bottom for all we know.

I will agree with Arrow's first steel, but we can never say 100% that it was the first non moving. There's a great chance some fair coaster owner just set one up in a park or sumthin, but I know this was the first in the US, and maybe the world.But, you can't be 100% on that.

I have never been on this, but I've heard the trains are bad.WDW Space Mountain had the same problem and all they need to do is make it 3 per car.Well, this ride was NOT THE FIRST STEEL COASTER no matter what anyone says.There were steel coasters before it that toured Europe.I have a pic. of one in 1958, but I am not saying this is a bad rie.Getting a big rahab now.

IMPORTANT TIP ABOUT THE MATTERHORN!!!
Advice from a disneyland veteran, the matterhorn is not one but to rollercoasters, there are two different tracks, and they ARE different. You'll notice in the line for the matterhorn a left and right line once you get past the turnstiles, take the left if you like a wild ride, take the right if you feel like a tamer ride. Just one of my many tips for visiting disneyland. ;)
Also, this is one of the funnest rides at disneyland, and should be included on everyones itinerary, unless you don't like rollercoasters.

This ride is by far one of the more fun ones. Ascend a very steep hill and at the top look to your left, I just noticed that its snowing outside last time I went. The mist inside feels good when your hot and this ride would not be as good without the the yeti's. I have also noticed that its less crowded early morning and most of the time at night which is when Personaly like to ride it the most.

I love the outside of the ride as much as
the ride it'self! Its the first and last
things you see while making the freeway
trek to and from the park! The ride is
great. The line can be brutal on hot days
but you gotta love the yodeling music! The ceiling
is a bit low in some parts for my taste

I LOVE THIS RIDE!!!!! The wait is DEFINATELY WORTH IT! I suggest going on this ride first thing in the morning - the wait is only twenty minutes. Of course, the Matterhorn is cooler at night, but be sure to go on it at any time during the day. You DON'T want to miss out on this one!

Miss the skyway going through it..but the ride itself is nice. Quite a bit rough compaired to the other mountains. Watch out for the Yetis!

This mountain is amazing: it is visually amazing, and represents not only the uniqueness, but the ingenuity of Disney's parks. It may be aged somewhat, but it's a tremendous thrill to see and to ride. A phenomenal achievement.

I love this ride but my boyfriend's oppinion deffers greatly. He's frightened of the Abominal Snowman (He's 19!!) and always seems to injure his knees on this ride. But he's a trooper and goes on with me several times a visit!! Love ya, Hon!

If there were one attraction that I could devote a large some of money to for a big over-haul the Matterhorn would be it (followed by the Haunted Mansion). Imagine what an adventure this could be if brought up to current Imagineering standards. Once a Disney great, this attraction has grown a little tired and dissapointing over the years.

I haven't rode this since the upgrade but I am sure they have only improved it. I have fond memories of this ride from my childhood. This was the first "roller coaster" I ever road and I was with my step father and this was our ride. He isn't with me now and whenever I miss him too much I think back to our many times on this ride

Arguably, the most famous icon of Disneyland, the Matterhorn is a MUST for all Disney enthusiasts able to ride. Although it's changed several times over the years, it has remained a Disneyland Classic. One of the most sincere touches made by Bob Baranick's Disneyland Design Studio team was a tribute to the late Frank Wells (President of the Company killed several years ago in a helicopter crash), an accomplished mountain climber and adventurer, in the form of a "lost expedition" scene added in the Crystal Caverns portion of the ride just past the top of the main lift.
