Marty Sklar - Page 1
Marty Sklar was our sub-group's first speaker in Town Square. The speech started just
before 9:00 a.m., Disneyland's opening time, so he was interrupted a couple of times for
the Disneyland announcer and the Disneyland opening spiel (which now includes Walt's
opening day dedication). That interruption gave him an opportunity to mention that
that was one of only two Disney theme park dedications he did not write.
Sklar spoke about how wonderful Herb Ryman was and told us a little bit about the foundation and how it's grown over the years. He then showed about 30 pieces of artwork and photographs, spoke about each one and passed them around for everyone to view up close. He then opened it up to questions. Since Sklar is a current executive in Imagineering many of the questions were about Disneyland's future. Sklar talked about the rumors 50th anniversary plans - upgrading some of Disneyland's classic attractions - and said, right now, that is the goal. He also mentioned the sad shape the New Tomorrowland is in and that they're currently looking at ways to improve it.
