A Look Back
June 11th marked the 11th anniversary of the WEDway People Mover being referred to as the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. The TTA (not to be confused with the TTC, TDA, or AT&T) happens to be one of my favorite attractions in the park. Where else can you hop on a nice moving vehicle for a relaxing tour through the park? OK, besides hijacking a stroller on Main St.

June 11th and 17th was the 28th anniversary of the Main Street Electrical Parade's premiere at the Magic Kingdom and the 33rd anniversary of it's premiere at Disneyland respectively. We have the MSEP (not to be confused with MSE, or MSDS) to thank for making "electrosynthomagnetic" a household term.

June 12th was the 48th anniversary of the opening of Monsanto's House of the Future. An all-plastic house may seem silly to today's audiences, but back on opening day it was considered completely ludicrous. I personally loved the pop-up kitchen concept, where it took 15 minutes for the shelf to lower down from the ceiling. Of course, my all-time story about the House of the Future is the tale of how the wrecking ball from the demolition crew bounced off of the plastic house. Makes you wish the Imagineers had the foresight to build Journey Into Imagination out of plastic.

Bambi's 63rd anniversary happened last week on June 14th. Disney is currently planning to release a Direct-To-Video sequel (or more accurately a "midquel"), Bambi and the Great Prince of the Forest. If it's successful I imagine they'll follow up with Bambi and the Deer formerly known as the Prince of the Forest. Apparently it deals with Bambi in his angsty teenage years. You know, like when he got a nose-piercing and ran through the meadow screaming "The leaves are going to eat me! The leaves are going to eat me!." Oh wait that was my teenage years. Sorry.

The World of Film
This weekend brings Batman Begins, the anticipated prequel Batman film. Starring ex-Newsie Christian Bale, Batman Begins is in prime position to make a strong showing this weekend. The film opened with $15 million on Wednesday, an impressive but not spectacular opening. In a move of alternative programming, the Hilliary Duff film The Perfect Man also is premiering this weekend. Hillary Duff's last film A Cinderella Story opened with $13.6 million, but I wouldn't be expecting quite that much this time around.

My predictions:

#1 - Batman Begins $55 million
#2 - Mr. and Mrs. Smith $28.5 million
#3 - The Perfect Man $11.5 million
#4 - Madagascar $10.5 million
#5 - Revenge of the Sith $9 million
#6 - The Longest Yard $7 million
#7 - Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl $5.5 million
#8 - Cinderella Man $5 million
#9 - Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants $3 million
#10 - The Honeymooners $2 million

If It Was a Disney Film. . .
Batman Begins would be a musical about Batman leading a strike of superheroes against the governments new superhero taxes. Songs include, "Seize the Moment," "Gotham City," "Carrying the Torch," and "Once and Forever."
