Tsum Tsum Life: D/Tsum Tsum Style

You’ve got D/Tsum Tsums, you’ve got D/Game, now you need D/Style. In Japan, Tsum Tsum fanatics can fill all manners of their lives with Tsum Tsums, from outerwear to underwear to dishware, there’s almost no limit to the products available in the “Land of the Rising Sun.” Pretty much everything except toilet paper…

Some of these fine products have FINALLY made their way to our shores, available exclusively at disneystore.com under the D/Style collection. D/Style includes lots of kuwaii non-Tsum Tsum items as well, mostly for women, but all I care about are the Tsum Tsum things and I need them.

Picture this: you’ve invited your friends over for a dinner party. You spent all day slaving away in the kitchen to treat-them-self and as you start passing out the mini-quiche appetizers, they notice that the tray beneath the appeteasers features artwork of little oval Disney characters stacked on top of each other. “These mini-quiches are divinity,” they proclaim as they shoot you questionable looks over your impeccable taste in dishware. Your internal monologue says “Nailed it!” as you hoof it back to the kitchen to put the finishing touches on your chicken and dumplings soup.

As you pass around the bowls of homemade bliss, they again say things like “Oh, Alex, you’re dumplings are mmmAAAHvelous!” As they approach the bottom of their bowls, they again look puzzled by the adorable squishy Disney faces all over them. Their eyes say “Is this guy for real?” and you look back confidently, your smug grin saying “Yeah, I know. I’m so rad!”

Back in the kitchen, you assemble your barbecue pulled-pork grilled cheese sandwiches and place them in the center of a Mickey-shaped plate. You fill the left ears with parmesan red mashed potatoes topped with a parsley garnish, the right ears with a cheesy broccoli, cauliflower, carrot medley. As your guests silently eat your meal, making faces you’ve only seen before at a massage parlor, they once again notice the stacked Disney faces happily looking up at them. At this point, they’ve come to accept it and are no longer surprised.

Dessert is apple cranberry cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream, each serving on a dessert plate with a different Tsum Tsum face filling nearly the entire surface. Your guests say things through a full mouth like “Ohh mai gob dis ib so goo!” You pass around coffee in solid-colored coffee mugs with the same character’s face having a staring contest with them. Never before and never again has a host had such matchy-matchy dish ware from start to finish. Even Martha Stewart is feeling jealous of you.

After dinner things get a little real. Your meal contained a lot of cheese. Like, maybe too much cheese. So your guests probably need to use your restroom(s). This is the part where Tsum Tsum TP would have been much appreciated (Disney Consumer Products, make it happen! Snap! Snap!).

Now it’s time for party games! You pull out your Dumbo Tsum Tsum pencil case and unzip it, removing your Tsum Tsum gel pens and Tsum Tsum click-pens. You pass them out and ignore their gaze as they think about how TLC needs to make a reality series about weird obsessions and how you’re a prime candidate for the pilot episode. Everyone writes down a Disney Character and puts the notes back in the hat (where is the Tsum Tsum stationary and headwear, Disney?) and then everyone tapes a random note to their head while giving you clues so you can guess which character you are.

Next you bring out your iPad and a collection of Tsum Tsum stylus’ as you try to get your friends addicted to the Tsum Tsum game. They take turns playing and you offer them your closely guarded recipe secrets in exchange for their pledge of allegiance to Line and their promise to send you hearts every hour, on the hour.

As your guests leave, you treat them to gift bags filled with Tsum Tsum socks that sadly didn’t fit your freakishly wide feet (sob!). They say things like “Thanks?” and “Oh… socks” as they peak in the bag.

As your full house clears out, you cuddle up on the couch with your Chip & Dale Tsum Tsum blanket and a large Tsum Tsum for a pillow as you engage in a marathon round of Tsum Tsum that goes into the wee hours of the morning. Your sleep deprivation leaves you feeling drained and listless as you drive to work the next day feeling hollow… but it was totally worth it.
