Toy Fair 2019: Moose Toys (Disney Doorables, Shopkins, Scruff-A-Luvs, Pikmi Pops, Treasure X)

Moose Toys had a record-setting year in 2018 and the fun will continue strong throughout 2019. They were a Toy of the Year Award winner for the Scruff-A-Luvs line that debuted at the fair last year. Their big Disney licensed product is Disney Doorables, a collectible blind box figure series that is fun to collect. In addition to a new wave of characters hitting store shelves now, Moose Toys has many great products available for kids ages 5 and up. We got an early look and a few samples when we visited their booth this year.

Disney Doorables

Disney Doorables weren’t on display at Toy Fair, but Series 2 is hitting store shelves now. You can easily spot a Series 2 pack because the door on the packaging is green instead of blue. I was able to find a few Mini Packs at my local Target and Multi-Peek packs are also available, giving you more bang for your buck. There are also new playsets themed to Minnie Mouse, Ariel, Jasmine, and Vanellope. Series 2 adds new character sets from The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Wreck-It Ralph, Toy Story, and The Lion King. It also expands the collections previously started for Mickey Mouse, Frozen, Alice in Wonderland, Tangled, Moana, Beauty and the Beast, Zootopia, and Peter Pan. Who’s hiding behind every door is a mystery. Who will you get inside your box of Disney Doorables?

Shopkins 5th Anniversary

Can you believe it’s already been five years since Shopkins made their debut? 2019 is the first year they’ve partnered with established food brands to create collectible packaging in Shopkins size. Inside each box is a Shopkins character themed to that brand, including Pop Tarts, Eggo, Cheeze-It, Welch’s Jelly, Peter Pan Peanut Butter, and more. The “Oh So Real” series will debut this Fall, but hitting shelves now are the “Family Mini Packs,” which feature a themed family of Shopkins characters, including babykins. There are over 30 families to collect in this series.

Shopkins Lil’ Secrets

Shopkins Lil’ Secrets debuted last year with locket playsets. The line expands later this year with “Shop Keypers,” store playsets that are compatible with your growing Shopkins collection. These playsets require a key or code to open them, so kids can keep the tiny world inside a secret. Store shelves are currently being stocked with a line called “Pop-Up Party” and “Shop Keepers” will join them later this year.

Shopkins Happy Places

Shopkins Happy Places features dolls and environments inspired by the Shopkins world. The brand recently went under the sea with “Mermaid Tails,” featuring mermaid dolls with color changing tails and a Mermaid Reef playset for water play fun. Later this year, the brand will bring a new kingdom to life called “Royal Trends,” inspired by Princesses and castles. This will mark the debut of their first boy doll in the line, Prince Rowen Ruby. All of the characters in this wave feature swappable costumes that allow them to go from day to night.

Pikmi Pops Surprise!

The latest sweet treat in the Pikmi Pops Surprise! series is doughnuts with “DoughMi’s.” They come in collectible plastic doughnut containers in three sizes. The Small DoughMi’s come with a small plush, while a medium comes with a bigger plush and five bonus surprises. The center of the medium case can be poked through to reveal one of 15 Jelly Pikmis, squishy rubber scented characters. I was given one of each and the extra surprises included bracelets, stickers, bag tags, and a charm. There are over 40 characters to collect, including some special and limited editions that feature slow-rise plush and glitter glaze. Four large DoughMi’s are available as well, with extra surprises inside.

Another new collection on display was Pikmi Pops Jelly Dreams. These are larger light-up plushes that come inside jelly bean pods and feature three light modes: Magic Wish, Starry Nite, and Dream Beams. They are now available in cat, puppy, and unicorn. Later this year, the line will expand to include more animals, including a llama.

Llamas were one of the biggest trends at Toy Fair this year, so it’s no surprise that an entire set of Pikmi Pops will be themed to this animal with “Pajama Llamas & Friends.” This set comes in popcorn boxes and they can flip inside out to look like a box of multi-colored popcorn or your llama friend in cute PJs. One of the characters is even a llamacorn!

On the theme of reversible plush, “Pikmi Flips!” is another brand coming this year that features fruit scented plushies that flip around to look like their fruity scent.

I predict the “Pikmi Pops Squeeze Ball Maker” will be one of the hottest toys of the year. Kids can fill an expandable ball with anything they want and the demonstration included water with glitter inside. The kit comes with Pikmi skins that the ball can be placed inside. Squeeze the Pikmi and the ball expands out of their mouth, creating as many fun effects as a kid can dream of. The kit comes with starter supplies, but you’re only limited by your imagination and the items you can find at your local craft store.

Little Live Pets

The Rainglow Unicorn Vet allows kids to take care of their interactive unicorn. It features over 40 sounds and reactions, including a light up horn that changes colors depending on if it feels good or bad. Look for this in toy aisles this Fall.

Little Live Wrapples” combine wrist slap technology with interactive animals. The line debuted last year and recently expanded with new characters, Shylo and Bonnie. These characters not only interact with you, but interact with each other. Collect multiple Wrapples to watch them talk and sing together.

Later this year, “Wraptiles” will take a similar concept and make it scaley. These rubbery reptiles feature lights, sounds, and animation to appeal to kids who just aren’t into the cute and fluffy line of Wrapples.

Scruff-A-Luvs

Congratulations are in order to Moose Toys for winning a TOTY for Scruff-A-Luvs, a line of rescue animals that arrive wrapped in a matted ball. Give them a bath to unravel your pet and find out what kind of animal they are. Little Live technology will be introduced to the brand later this year to create the first electronic plush toy that can be submerged in water, which will be a blue dog. This Spring, Blossom Bunnies will be the first time kids know the species, but the color is a mystery. Lilac was recently introduced as a new color box as well, while the species is kept a surprise. New for Fall will be a “Candy Floss Fur” collection that includes a new animal (Llamas!!!) and “Scruff-a-Luvs Families” will add babies to the line, where each animal will come with babies, but the number of babies is a mystery.

Treasure X

Treasure X allows kids to become treasure hunters with mystery themed excavations. The line debuted last year with a Pirate theme and the newest collection is called “Dragons Gold.” I was gifted a Hunter pack to try out and it was a lot of fun. It came with a brick of dry rock and a multi-tool so you can chip, brush, and dig away to reveal scattered pieces of a figurine and a treasure chest inside. The treasure chest is full of goo and you have to pull it apart to reveal your treasure, which could even include a piece dipped in real gold! Dragons Sets offers the same level of play, but kids are putting together dragon figures instead of treasure hunters. Treasure Sets come with a dragon, a hunter, a monster, and you’re guaranteed to get a gold-dipped piece in one of these collections.

New for Fall 2019 is “Treasure X Aliens.” This line adds a new level of gross because instead of digging through sand or rock materials, you are dissecting a large alien to find the figures and treasures hidden inside. This includes peeling back skin and a rib cage. If you’re squeamish like me, this set is gross. If not, this is probably one of the coolest toys you’ve ever seen. Instead of gold dipped pieces, the rare items will be gems..

Heroes of Goo Jit Zu

Launching this Fall, “Heroes of Goo Jit Zu” is a multi-sensory line of action figures where each character has a different texture. With a rubbery exterior, some are filled with jelly, some with beans, some with liquid. An animated web series will launch with the collection to bring the world to life. Some figures will even glow in the dark!

The magic makers at Moose Toys continue to give kids new ways to play with, collect, and interact with their favorite subjects. For Disney fans, Disney Doorables continues to be an exciting and collectible line of sparkly-eyed characters. Foodies will fall in love with Shopkins and Pikmi Pops. Animal lovers will be head over heels for Little Live Pets and Scruff-A-Luvs. And those that seek adventure and excitement will find it in Treasure X and Heroes of Goo Jit Zu.
